Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (Post-release)

Agree with all your points, though Im a little more lenient on the final fight.

Nothing majorly wrong, but not much to write home about. But an entertaining few hours, the fight choreorgaphy was basic, brutal and not flashy, which I really liked.

And to be honest, the final fight - what a way to end someone. However, motivations all around were a little lacking.

And the only thing that really bugged me was

why would the girls mother put Jack Reacher as the father claim, when they clearly didnt know each other? Or are we supposed to assume that it was fabricated by the bad guys - doesnt make sense, as the girl said she pushed for her mother to do it. If it is pure coincidence that the mother just chose reachers name that will annoy me. I dont think it was explained?

I just felt that towards the end it was moving away from the character of Reacher and becoming more generic Cruise action film. I though Cruise was great in the first film but this time I was missing having a big guy in there.

My main gripes on that
It was things like all the running, Reacher isn't much of a runner in the books. And the stunt driving, he hates driving and isn't very good at it, in that scene he would have certainly had the major drive. Having the mobile phone at the very end, that just clunked with me. There is no way he would've kept that,. he is a loner that lives off grid, every book goes to great lengths to enforce that notion, probably more so that they do his size.

Its a good while since I read the book, so I can't remember exactly about the paternity claim. I don't think the girl pushed the mother into it, I think the mother filed a claim and the bad guys took the opportunity to pin it on Reacher to a) mess with his head (knowing he was likely to arrive to visit Turner, especially with her note to keep him away. The army know him and know what he's capable of so would try to be a move or 2 ahead) and b) someone else he has to look out for, you wan't to get the superhero you go after their loved ones.

I think the movie had the girl be the instigation just to ram home how savvy and calculating she could be. The book has you believing she could be his daughter.

But like I said, its an entertaining film, especially for those that aren't that into the books. If someone had just seen the 1st movie I think they would really enjoy it.

Everyone's making a big deal that the new Tyler Perry cookie cutter crap Madea movie is beating it when you're looking at two totally different demographics for fan bases.

It's bloody tiring being interested in all this kind of stuff, this genre and seeing how many spats and clickbait/kneejerk/barely informed opinions end up drowning the web around the product now.

I suppose when people look back on the Golden Age of comic book films we'll be sat in our hover-rocking chairs exclaiming that "It wasn't all sunshine and daisies back then..." haha.

I saw this on Saturday. I didn't hate it, but I think it seriously misses the bar set by the first one. I wish there had been more actual detective work shown, & I also wasn't a fan of the B&W scenes indicating how he was working things out in his head. It almost came off like precognition or something.

Also, the soundtrack was COMPLETELY inferior to the first film. I liked the first film's soundtrack so much that I bought it on CD, but even though I just got done viewing this new film, I can't recall ANY of the music in it.

Again, not even close to the worst movie I've ever seen; I'm glad I watched it, but I won't be buying the Blu-ray of this one.
