Whatever happened to the eye thing that looks over the droids from Jedi . Here's the only pic I could find ...Has anyone tried to replica it ?

That thing was crazy cool.

I dont think I have seen anyone tackle this one. Now you have me wondering how the thing was even made to begin with.

yeah I thought it would be a great piece with it mounted on the wall with the bast like the door of course. Esp. if you could get it to come in and out of something.

I don't know how it was made and have never seen it replicated.

What a good idea, it just goes to show that we haven't recreated the whole SW universe yet after all.

Watching that scene, it behaves like someone is standing behind the door and waving the pole around to create the movement. The 'lens' over the 'eye' seems to spring up, too.

I took a few screencaps which might help.

Indeed, this is an awesome idea for a prop replica. I can't for the life of me remember where I saw it, but I'm almost positive that I've seen someone replicate one of these.

They did this as well as the control panel that Luke threw the skull at for the door that crushed the Rancor.

Apparently it was a TT-8L gatekeeper droid. Anyone else finding anything on it?

Maybe it's just me but this is one of those bits of expanded detail that actually detract from the magic for me. There's no mystery left in the SW universe. I loved when we didn't know what that eye was attached to. Or what the rest of that alien monster in the garbage compactor looked like. Or that the imaginatively designed and completely non-humanoid hammer-headed alien in the Cantina just had a normal human body. I think it's the unanswered questions that help make it feel like an actual alien world, and help you relate to the characters in the movie who are also encountering these things for the first time.

Sorry, no offense intended - just needed to vent! This is probably completely the wrong attitude with which to approach the subject of prop replication anyway...

I see your point. But its that fact that makes star wars so awesome for me. Everything is explained. Everything is tied together and explained. Even the smallest little parts have a rhyme and reason for being there. Thats what separates that universe from other shows or movies. Nobody has taken the time since then to cover all bases like that. Thats what intrigues me.

Well i still wish George had kept his mouth shut about the force....Midicloriens :thumbsdown

I would just like to have the extension part of the droid with about a 3' square piece of jabba door way around it. I'm fairly certain my idea to have it next to my front do outside the house will get nixed by the wife..

I think its made the same way as a Grabber toy...

Damn i'd allways thought it was part of the spidery looking thing we see briefly in the darkness after the door opens.
In fact i prefer to think of it like that so there!
