Ironman MK 42 build for 8 year old

I made the normal size of the Gimpee MK42 and the chin gap thing was already hard, can't imagine how it was at an even smaller scale!
Did you actually pep out all the face lines too?!, those must of been even harder and smaller if you did!

Subbing to this thread as I'm very interested to see how you proceed from now, as I have no idea at what stage I attach the ear, how to do it, and how to bondo the cheeks yet keep all the layered details!

But keep up the work good sir!

The machine in the background is a silhouette cameo. I will be using it to cut parts from now on. The helmet I cut by hand before I got the cameo.

I skipped the face lines in the pep, the pieces were just too small. I will add the lines in the finish bondo similar to how I did the hands. Good question about the ears... I've never built a pep helmet before, this is all new to me! I hadn't even thought about them till you mentioned it.

The way I scaled the helmet was using the 'measure distance between two points' option that you can choose by right clicking in the pattern window. I measured the width of the support that fits between the ears in Gimpee's file.

Then I measured the width of my son's head with an improvised caliper ( a big C clamp LOL! like Uncle Fester). I scaled the pep patterns using the 'change scale' dialog found in the 2D menu in Pepakura Designer until the support was roughly the same sized as my son's head. I made it a bit larger to allow for the thickness of the fiberglass and if he grows a bit. The scale of the helmet was pretty close to the default, I've read that it runs on the small side... Or my kid has a big head... Maybe both. :)

Hope this helps.

Cameo'd Streetsoul's unfold of Jackie's boot. 8 pages in under 30 mins !
Taking my boys fishing tomorrow, this will have to wait until the evening.

Awesome! The fish were biting, between the four of us we caught and released 40-45 fish of various sizes and species over about five hours. Slightly overcast skies about 72 degrees, we where the only row boat on the lake. So peaceful. Good for the soul.

Got a little done on the boot today, had family obligations so maybe tomorrow. Thanks to Jackie for the great file. Lots of very small pieces... Makes the helmet seem like a piece of cake!

I'm not sure if this is a stupid question but how do you get the "silhouette cameo" to cut pep files?
Is it just "click print" and it goes or do the files need to go through another program?
Thanks for the help.

Pepakura has its own Silhouette program for cutting files. You do it straight from the program.
1. Print the pages out using a regular printer.
2. Load each of them individually into the Silhouette. (Take note of the registration marks)
3. Cut straight from the program.

It is really that simple once you figure everything out.

This isn't a very detailed explanation but there are more in depth run throughs out there.

Let me know if you need any further assistance.
