Ironman Helmet for Airsoft FINISHED!

Re: Ironman Helmet for use in Airsoft

hi all right i have been round and everything is awesome! i just have a few questions

Untitled-1-6.jpg

1. as you can see from the picture i want to cut the face plate out( green line) what tool is best to use on the dremel?

2, (the red arrow) how do i do that part.

3, can anyone provide me with a very good tutorial for Hinges? i really want to hinge it :)

4, there a some imperfections ie its not smooth, so i know about sanding but whats a good easy sanding filler to use?

5, i am probably going to have to cut the back part out (blue line all way round ) how do i hinge that in the middle?

i think thats about it for now hehe :)

thank you very much for your time

Re: Ironman Helmet for use in Airsoft

1 i used one of the thin disks i dont know what they're called.

2. you cut around the green and then cut the part thats left too that parts usually just some foam look at some pictures of the helm.

4. people use 'bondo' i havent used that perticular brand but its just some car body filler.
im going to buy some epoxy filler from resinstore.com it works out to be a little cheaper than buying branded car body fillers.

5. i think people just attach magnets for that i dont think anyones hinged that.

Re: Ironman Helmet for use in Airsoft

cheers dude, what about for attaching things to the helmet? do i use fiber glass or araldite? if so which type of araldite

is this handy stuff too? link
si

Re: Ironman Helmet for use in Airsoft

yeah the araldite might be useful for sticking hinges and things, you could use fibreglass to attach things but most resins cure really slowly so its not practical.

id just get some epoxy putty im not sure what araldite is. epoxy will stick to anything

Re: Ironman Helmet for use in Airsoft

hey Desolation! i see your from Chessy? another person not far from me :) well when i cast my helmet i think i am going to use a junior hack saw blade for cutting off the faceplate, that way i can make sure i wont slip with the dremel and mess anything up lol, and also i think that way will keep the tightest space between the faceplate and helmet, so you wont cut out too much of a gap using the dremel.

and the rear hinge, i would either got for a tiny hinge smack bang in the centre, as there wont be much room to add a big hinge once its hinged back or just use a piece of elastic glued on as a hinge, then add some neodymium magnets so it locks back into place nice and tight :)

Re: Ironman Helmet for use in Airsoft

To be honest, with a full helmet your main problem is going to be overheating, and fogging of the lenses. Even with just a face mask you know how hot you get, and how damn fogged up it can become, even with special defog mixtures on the lenses. With a full helmet both problems are going to be amplified to a huge degree!

Will do :).

What do you think of the hinge system couple of posts up just having a center hinge and magnets.

Also what size magnets are good,

What do you suggest for sticking everything down i also want to create a lip on the inside on the mask for the face plate to sit on. Epoxy putty? I was thinking
