Iron Man Sound clip needed

I am trying to get a few specific sound effects from chapter 5 of the new Iron Man DVD into a Wave or MP3 file. I've tried to download programs that will allow me to isolate two sounds that I'm looking for:

(These sounds are made from the Mk. 1 suit)

1) The ratcheting sounds that the suit makes when he twists his torso.
2) The "servo" or mechanical sound that his arm makes when swinging/moving.
3) The "pounding" that he makes when walking to simulate a heavy footstep as he walks.

If anyone has the ability to grab these sound bytes and send them to me, I would greatly appreciate it. Or, if someone could point me in the right direction as to how to isolatte these sounds, that would hwlp too. LMK, and "Thanks" in advance!

Ya know, I was JUST thinking of this last night. I pondered the idea if heading out to a local factory...see if they have any electric forklifts or man trucks and record the sounds myself. the factories I worked in before college had all this stuff. nice clean, hydraulic cool sounds.
naturally, my thoughts on these sounds are to install switches/devices into a suit and cue the sound effect with actual movement...was that your thought as well?

YUP! That's the road I was trying to go down. It would be easy to have trigger buttons on the hand to actuate the sound or even have mercury switches that would cue the sound when motion is detected.
The hydraulic sounds would be fine, but the ratcheting sound more resembles a fast roller coster climb or a chain driven sprocket, similar to what you find on a roll up door. Any thoughts?

That is the coolest idea I've ever heard! I assume then, that you are making a Mark I suit? Can't wait to see your progress on this!

I did this very thing for my Jaffa suit from Stargate SG-1.

I had Jim from Hyperdyne custom build me a sound board. We worked together and found a sound of the Jaffa walking (the chink-chink-chink sound the armor and chainmail made) that had very little background music. From that, Jim cleaned up the background noise and built the board.

The setup has a foot switch that goes under my heel. As long as the switch is pressed (standing) the sound is "off". Releasing the switch (walking) triggers a loop of the sound. The sound board cuts off again if the switch is pressed for more than one second so the loop continues as long as I keep moving. A wire runs up my leg to a pouch on my belt that houses the board and a small speaker.

The rig works very well. Jim was great to work with on this project, too.

Just an idea. Hope it helps!

Didn't a C3PO costumer do something like this recently? Maybe he can chime in too.

Also, for creative sake...I was even wondering something a little less involved....
We've all probably taken apart our vintage X-Wings or Tie Fighters...what about those little motors and spinnie thing? They produce different "tones" (for lack of better term) and could be wired to clever hidden switches on your fingers or feet. Granted, those motors are nowhere near the screen used sounds...but I dunno...it was a thought

Yes, it's for a Mk. 1 The problem is, I can't find a software program that will pull the audio from ch. 5 from the DVD. If I could get that in an .AVI or .MP3 file, then I could cut it down and send it to Jim, to make the sound board.

Any takers that have the ability to do this, PLEASE!?

Hey Servo, did Jim provide you with the foot switch or did you have to find one yourself? I was curious to know what kind of switch is needed, which can endure being "walked on" and not get damaged?

Jim built the entire rig. It's just a small, flat momentary push button. About the diameter of the head of a pencil eraser and about as thick as a nickel. Not big at all.

I would like to personally give a BIG THANK YOU! to fellow member VANDARK. :cheers

He definitely helped me out to find and iscolate these sounds clips exactly as I needed them. I hope one day, I can return the favor.

Looks like Vandark beat me to it, but I pulled these out and cleaned them up a bit, too.

13 different sounds in there. Maybe you, or someone else, can use them.

Servo, I appreciate it. I think having more clips to send to Jim will give him the option to use the clips he feels are going to work the best. So a BIG THANKS! to you for doing this.

BTW, what program did you use to pull the clips off of the DVD? I've been trtying to use audacity, but I don't know how to use it properly, and keep getting recordings of static.

No problem. I was bored, anyway. Glad I could help. :)

I used HandBreak to rip out Chapter 5 into a MP4 file.

I then used VisualHub to convert that MP4 into an AVI file.

Took that AVI file into Audacity and isolated the clips I wanted, then saved those clips out as WAVs.

Then, I opened those WAVs in Audacity again and edited out the parts I didn't want (background music the best I could, other sounds, etc...).

Not as hard as it sounds and it gave me something to do to keep me inside on a cold night.

I'm just glad I could help. If there's someone here who has actual audio editing software, they could probably do a much, much better job.
