Iron Man movie helmet 1st cast pics, 1st post

I made a plaster waste mold of the plasticene sculpt and cast this helmet to further refine before putting it in silicone. I still need to hit it with 800 grit and add the screws, but for all intents and purposes, this thing is done.

There are some minor differences from the screen used helmet, but overall, I'm very pleased with the way it turned out.

Beautiful work though.

There are a lot of addiitional features for the movie helmet that I haven't added yet, but I like to tackle the large forms before doing the details.

Re: Iron Man movie version WIP pics

Oh sure - now that I've sent payment for the other version! LOL!
Looks fantastic, and I think I might be forced to buy the movie version if you offer it.

Re: Iron Man movie version WIP pics

Simply awesome. Great work.

Quick question. What type of clay do you work with? It seems to hold the sharp edges and detail really well and I would like to get that detail on my next sculpt.

Re: Iron Man movie version WIP pics

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Brien- The clay I'm using is a plasticene called Klean Klay, but I wouldn't recommend it really. I just happened to buy a lot of it at a time when I couldn't afford anything better and I've learned to work around it's weaknesses over the years.

If you can afford it, I would recommend something like Chavant for smaller (bust sized) sculpts.

Re: Iron Man movie version WIP pics

Yeah, I am using Klean Klay as well. Apparently you can get it in a different hardness than what I have but Blick Art does not seem to carry it. Knowing the material you are working with I am even more impressed.

Would be great if the following could be done, with the lower part of the jaw. (highlighted by arrows in the above picture.)
That it could be made to be easily removed from the main helmet. Making it easier to be plated along with the face mask. Instead of having the whole helmet being done. That'll be cool to see if it could be done!
