Hi guys!!...i’m new in this forum and I want introduce myself. I’m Marco, i live in Chile so I have to say that my english is not that good, but i’ll try to do the best I can.
since i was a kid i'm a big fan of iron man, so when the movie came out i decided to build an armor replica, but i had no time due to university, now i'm graduated so i started to build it a couple of month ago.
i joined to this forum searching information about how to do it, i was thinking in clay modeling, but it needs a tons of it!!! jejeje ...and i had no money....so i found pepakura..and was amazing...my mind was opened to an infinite world of posibilities...i thought: wow!!..i can make a car with this program!!! (i'm mechanical engineer)
in this forum there's a lot of amazing costume builders, i have been watching all of their threads and i think they are extremely good and an inspiration for all of us.
This is what I got so far, I hope you like it and can give me your opinion
i used dancing_fool's files (thanks by the way)

Welcome Marco, you're off to a great start! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with! What are you using to cover the helmet with?

thanks for the welcome wardentorbaal, what i used to cover the helmet is "magic putty", it would be "bondo" for you. I used this to fix cars also.
i hope to post more pics over the week, i'm working on the gloves and legs.

Hi! It's good to see another Chilean on the boards! You're Iron Man is off to a great start and looks like you've got the pepakura figured out pretty well. Welcome to the boards!

Hehe good luck on your project..

I am an industrial engineer, was also very interested in making some models with Pepakura for my automotive classes..!

I actually found a way out to import my Solidworks models into pepakura..

since then been experimenting a lot :D

Thanks guys for taking time for comments!!...this is my first proyect and very important also.

@Maulfett:
Thanks!!..i really appreciate your opinion, I've been watching your work and is really incredible.

@Epilepticsquirl:
Thanks for your comment!!...by the way, is there another Chilean in the forum?

@Leander:
Thanks for wishing me luck!!..i'm sure that i'm going to need it!!!...my goal is finish the armor before halloween!!.
I use sketchup to import models into pepakura, just basic models.

@Starktech:
i'm glad you like this. i had to make a mannequin on pepakura, fill it with foam , stuck it into a stand and add pvc pipes for arms. that way looks better!!.

Today sculpted the palms of the hands. I used clay

Thanks for your comment!!...by the way, is there another Chilean in the forum?

why me of course :) half chilean on my mothers side. Though I don't live there, I've got the pic of the earthquake flag on my desk. :thumbsup

what's even funnier is I have almost the exact piston from my Great Grandfathers truck that he drove in chile. We use it as an ash tray for the new year cigars.

ever came to chile? ... Here all is well, the most important news are: the earthquake in the south and the trapped miners in the north.

what a coincidence! .. I also use the piston as an ashtray !!!... and it was from a mercedes benz truck.

I want to share some pictures of the mannequin I built to put the pieces of armor.
I used a pep files I found on the net, and I do not really know who to thank for that file.
I'm sure those who are building an iron man costume will be very useful
here's the link: Armor Files - SoullessSin
perhaps the author is Ryan Bartoletti, so thanks for the file

Hi guys!, i just found a way to make the inner (between) parts of the fingers
im1glove2.jpg

and maybe it works for the whole inner parts of the gloves, elbows, back of knees, etc...
i really don´t know if someone already did this, perhaps with silicone or something like that, but i think is a really functional and cheap idea.

i used alginate (dental material)

here's the thing:
I found a flexible hose from a car engine part that is pretty similar to inner parts gloves shown in the movie.

so what i did was take a mold of it, and get a negative:

then i fill the negative to get a copy from the original hose.

to finaly get a copy from the original hose:

this is the alginate:

The idea is put this inside of the entirely fingers. the good thing of this is that you can make it thinner or thicker, according to your gloves.
like 8 dollars total....

Do you understand well what I said?...right?.."my english is not very good looking"

hehehhhe......
please tell me what you guys think..

best regards
