It was pretty obscure in the first movie, but you would have to have been asleep to miss it in the sequel!
I was wondering if anyone here has any interest in tackling a recreation of the shield as we see it on screen?
It may only be the 'prototype' model, but the design looks great and I hope they don't change that for the Cap movie.

You can even find video clips of the shield and Thor's hammer on Youtube as well.

I kinda hate it when people complain about spoilers because you can generally not click on the thread. But it this case it was right in the title and I couldn't avoid it. :angry
Guess I have to start avoiding message boards altogether until I see a movie.

Re: Iron Man 2 - Captain America Shield - discussion thread

i remember when movies were kept quiet until everyone saw them was considerate. and then the excitement of sharing a conversation about a really cool thing you both thought in a movie.

now its just people thinking they have some sort of elite information because they saw a movie and dont consider that they ruin important parts of movies.

its funny, but what neat things about the first iron man movie were spoiled to me as well.

thank you, inconsiderate casual movie watcher. i hope you answered every phone call made in the theater and yelled at the screen when something important was going to happen.

You couldn't have waited at LEAST a week to post this? :confused

Re: Iron Man 2 - obscure prop - discussion thread

It's hardly a huge plot point, and was in the first movie too so I don't think it's as big a secret as some people are making out. It'd almost be like asking a question about the Audi he's driving... oops, hope I didn't give anything else away.

Still, it's nice to have some small surprises in there to make us fans go all weak in the knees.

When this prop popped up on screen, I loved it! I'm so glad it wasn't ruined for me in advance, I would have lost that sense of surprise.

It's the same reason I wish the Mark IV suit was kept a secret, seeing that for the first time in theaters would have blown my mind.

Long story short, sometimes little surprises can have a big effect.

Is it the same shield as the first movie? Regardless, I'm not a big fan of the 'prototype/dismantled' shield in IM/IM2. Seeing it on the desk was one thing but seeing it moved around really showed how floppy it was.

From what I read on the interwebz, the Marvel movie continuum story goes "Tony's father Howard Stark created the shield. Tony subsequently used the alloy of a prototype to create his armor." I'm only guessing this is that prototype. Personally, I imagined Cap's shield to be a pretty solid piece of metal, just like the comics version being made in the mold of a tank's upper hatch, not layers of metal and mesh and whatever else, as it looked in the film. I hope they clear it up in the Cap movie.

Plus that weird partial star threw me off, no pun intended.

Perhaps it was meant to be layered like the Iron Man Movie suits. There are layers of open mesh covered by solid "metal." If the shield was disassembled then it would stand to reason that the underlying structure is what we're seeing rather than the complete thing as it would appear in the movie.

Sorry guys. I really had no idea it was going to be such a big deal - the info on the shield and the end credits sequence was all over the internet and I was mistaken in posting it in the thread title.

Oh I never meant to infer that what we are seeing a completed shield in the IM movies or that it would look like that in the Cap film. I just meant that seeing like that, in layers, mid construction, was a little off to me. But there is also the possibility that given the Stark shield is a 'prototype' then the one Cap actually carries could be solid. I'd like to think that the design could have gone from complex to very simple. :)

most people avoid things that would take away experience from the movie for the first time, and not find themselves watching the movie just to see when was spoiled for them shows up.

even if its all over the internet.
