Iron Man 2 - Desk Props (SPOILER)

In Iron Man 2, where Pepper Potts is the CEO of Stark Expo, there is an item on her desk which is distracting Tony Stark. It's a revolving office toy. Here is a picture from the movie; http://www.comicbookmovie.com/images/users/uploads/8073/zz655fea81-550x3692.jpg I've tried searching for it over gadget websites and office toy sites, but have been unable to find anything like it.

Does anyone know what these are called, and/or where to search for one?

Thanks,

Lewis. :ninja

It's probably best to wait until the movie is out in the US and across the world so everyone knows what you're talking about. I've seen the movie (yay for living in Ireland!), and just mentioning "desk prop" I knew instantly what you were on about. They kinda draw your attention to it... :)

Unfortunately, I myself have no idea what it is or where you might get one, but if you find out, I want one too!! Hahah!

By the pic it looks like it might be a 'Chaos' Double pendulum. Hard to tell from the static pic but it's my best guess since it looks like its a 2 bar double pivot design.

Well that appears to be it.
I wonder if it is possible to replicate it.
It says in the description that it is very hard, yet it looks so simple.

Has anyone found a video of what the sculpture looks like in motion? I looked, but couldn't find anything and this thread really has me intrigued.

There are so much cool props in this moive!:love

I absolutely agree with you!
There are also a lot of potential for awesome and simple paper props!
I am looking forward to some of those starting to pop up in the paper prop forum :D

let me know if you need any screen captures , I'm fixing to go through it and see what I can get ;)

I thought these where cool on Tony's desk in the beginning...

For anyone interested in replicating it, it's based on a simple double pendulum (YouTube should be filled with videos of those).

As is par for the course with such executive toys, it might also be enhanced with repelling magnets, one somewhere in the pendulum arm and one somewhere in the base, to prevent it from easily reaching equilibrium. For the most part however, magnets won't be needed, just two arms, two pivots, a stand, and a base.
