Inexpensive thigh high boots-how to tint

Long time ago, on the old Royal Guard Costuming board, I posted that I could probably make a common pair of black pigskin boots(SCA, thigh high, you've probably seen them in a search for boots) into red ones for Kir Kanos/Crimson Empire outfits. I was told it was impossible, couldn't be done.
So I did it.
www.bryndana.com/ Sells ColorBond spray can dye. Here's the method to save a few bucks on your thigh-high red boots:
You will need three cans of the red, I used Corvette red, for one pair of long boots. You will need a can of white vinyl upholstery spraypaint found in most auto stores, and some acetone. Put very little acetone on a rag and clean the outside of the boots, make sure some black is coming off so you know you're getting through any sealant. After they're all claned, spray them well with the white vinyl paint(it WILL stick) until everything you want to turn red is white. After they are dry, spray liberally with the dye, coating the front thickly and evenly in light coats. I did this 2 years ago and not a flake has come off. [attachmentid=13409] Total cost: 70 for the boots and 45 for the paints. $115 and you can make a pair any color you want.

I may be giving this technique a try soon- thanks.

Can I get a close-up on the boots' paint?
