Indiana Jones gun in Raiders. What exactly is it?

So I went to the gun show today and I found (at least 6) suitable fits for Indy's gun in Raiders. I didn't buy one as I thought it would be better for me to come home and reasearch so that I would be better informed when the next gun show comes out.
So many sites that I went to have conflicting information.
If I want the RIGHT S&W 1917 pistol (we're talking real live firearm), can some of the gun experts be very specific as the correct gun model as seen in the movie? I just want to make sure I get the most SA one as possible.
Any help would...well, help. :)

That is the correct model. A 1917 Smith and Wesson. It is an N frame gun that is chambered for .45ACP. I have one I bought in the early 90's that I converted to the Stembridge gun which was used in the beginning of the film and when indy tosses it in the suitcase. The model I got was a Brazillian which cost about $125.00 at the time when the Brazillian police released them to the US to collectors. Now I think they go for $500. Go to the Indygear site and you can find all the info you need.

I'd go with a real gun over a replica anyday, but you will need a gunsmith to shorten the barrel of either the 1917 or model II that Indy both carried and might need to get a brownells catalog or the like to find the "as screen used" grips.
