I can't agree at all. I would love to see Jeffrey Dean Morgan - the actor who played The Comedian in Watchmen - handle the role, I think he could do really well.

Dayum... that dude really looks like RDJ... I'm OK with a recast if they use him.. it'll be like a bewitched recast that no one ever caught onto lol

Sure, it's great that he looks like RDJ, but he also has a playboy vibe to him. The persona is more important in selling the character than looks.

Reboot it? Without an origin story? Not saying it's impossible, but why the "reboot it" stance?

Oh man, my eyes must be going. I could of swore I put a *don't* in there, as in don't reboot it. Mainly because also being a comic book fan I've seen and read and re-read these guys origins over and over again. Yeah, I know not everyone is familiar with the source material but I just find it annoying when it's not even been a decade and the movies are still fresh from the first go around.

You meant has to have right? I dont know much about the individual but if he's a great actor then he could fit the part.. I dunno though how about they just recast him as Paul Blettany.. I haven't heard a criticizing from that option yet

Maybe I'm wrong but from what I understand RDJ's age isn't as much of the issue, as it is him being involved with the character for going on 5 years and 4 movies now and wanting to move on to new things.

Well they need some young talent in there then, someone that can develop the role and grow into it as RDJ did who knows maybe he'll stay maybe not, but I would like to see the expand their story line at least, there's so many marvel events including Iron Man as a solo hero and interacting with other famous heroes as well besides the avengers.

They'll recast, and I'll be fine with it... AS LONG AS THEY DON'T PICK ADRIAN FRAKKIN' PASDAR!!! I've only watched ONE episode of the Iron Man anime series because I can't STAND him as Tony Stark! He's never been the greatest actor, but he was at least tolerable in Heroes. As Tony Stark, however, he sucks HARD! angry

Yeah I couldn't stand Pasdar in Heroes... now Milo Ventimiglia on the other hand, maybe they could use him, he's definitely got better acting skill then his tv series brother Adrian "Frying-Man" Pasdar lol

They could still have Iron Man do extended cameos in other Marvel movies, without the faceplate opening, and still use RDJ's as voice actor, no matter how old he looks. That could buy them some time to find a replacement before making another Iron Man stand alone film.

I think it would be best to go with an unknown actor to eventually replace him. No new origin story. Just keep going James Bond style.

If Robert Downey Jr decides to call it a day and hang up the proverbial suit, Marvel should just let the character go, take a bold stance and move onm they have a wealth of great characters that could be brought to the big screen.

To re-cast RDJ's role as Tony would ruin the Marvel Cinematic Universe for me.

If they really can't do without a guy in an armoured suit, then either let War Machine/Rhodey take over or use Captain Mahr-vehl from the Ultimates universe. Having recently read the brilliant Ultimate Galactus Trilogy TPB I think he could work as a replacement.

One way or another, RDJ or someone else, we're not done with Tony Stark. A hiatus maybe, but he'll be back. Just after the credits of Iron Man 3 there was "Tony Stark will be back" written in plain yellow on the screen (once again, reminds me of 007), so I'm fairly sure they're not going to move on to another marvel hero soon.

They will find somebody else to play Stark. Just like they replaced Connery as Bond. People are too hung up on actor X playing role Y for all perpetuity and three infinities. Look at the uproar when they said Edward Norton wouldn't be back as the Hulk in Avengers and Ruffalo owned the part. So if we are really lucky we could end up with a really good Stark replacement.

Ack, just no spoilers please, IM3 hasn't premiered in North America yet . As far as replacing him bond style it could work with the right actor, we've stated that as well as using his voice and image as a cameo in future movies. It has been made apparent that RDJ should be re-appearing in The Avengers 2 but as far as an appearance after that is unknown... We have to face it, he's getting older, I don't like the inevitability one bit but I agree Marvel will have to move onto bigger and better characters at some point.. "IM" isn't around forever in the comics

Downey will remain Stark for a loooooong time.
IM3 is a rightfully critically acclaimed, all in all excellent and daring movie wich is about to be the first marvel solo franchise to hit the billion dollar mark at the box office. Merchandising is going trough the roof.
I'm pretty sure both Disney and Marvel will make the necessary arrangements to have him back in more movies.

I am so fed up with reboots. If he leaves they need to do a James Bond or Bewitched and just change actors and not make a big deal about it. No, "Oh, Tony was in a bad accident and got reconstructive surgery and a personality transplant" or anything stupid like that. Do it like what they did when they switched actors for Rhodey's character.

I agree, either end the Iron man series, or simply replace him with another actor. NO REBOOT!

While I understand that Toby was now too old to play Spiderman, we could have simply just had another Spidey movie without the restart again. I am able to know that Andrew is now Parker, just as I knew Toby was. Since it's all make believe anyway......
