"IF" Robert Downey Jr. retires as Iron Man, what "COULD" Marvel/Disney do to replace/

Re: Robert Downey Jr. retiring as Iron Man :(

Okay, okay, stop beating around the bush guys. I'll play Tony Stark when R.D.J. decides he doesn't want to do it anymore.

:D

Re: Robert Downey Jr. retiring as Iron Man :(

My god this thread is annoying. The title is misleading. At least put a ? Mark in there. It kinda implies its fact. Its a statement. RDJ said theres still more places to go with the character at the premiere. Thats what matters

Now THAT is an Iron Man I'd go see. I wonder how many suits they'd be missing after just one week of shooting.:) HAHAHA By the end of shooting you'd just be wearing a t-shirt and jeans with the armor drawn on and the producers would be wispering "We just can't trust this guy!"

Actually - Billy Cruddup could pull it off.

Re: Robert Downey Jr. retiring as Iron Man :(

I don't care if they recast, just for the love of all that is holy reboot it. I am tired of origin stories. And as for bond, I've always preferred Roger Moore.. until Daniel Craig came along that is.

ummm a few words as the subject is misleading? How about instead of skipping the first post and not reading it and going right to the end, you actually take the time to read my post... Nothing is more annoying then people who skip reading. Nowhere in there am I stating it is a fact that RDJ is retiring, instead I give 3 entertaining options they could go with IF... I'll type it again for the two people that are having a hard time comprehending this thread. "IF" RDJ plans on retiring they could use to keep him in the films and working alongside future Iron Man feature films. Other then that I guess we better watch out for the grammar police because I didn't add a "?" in the title. I figured it was a way for people to come in discuss the options I gave give new ones, and put their piece of input in, you don't like it move on to the next thread :)

How about instead of bein cocky. You put a proper thread title. Yes those words as the subject are misleading. And I would have probably read the thread if it contained what the title implied. Its not rocket science. One thing I hate more then people not taking time to read is people putting incorrect titles. Thats my point. Iv no intrest in reading a post about the posibility but would have read about some source claiming he was. Its not about grammar police. Im far from good at it. But it would have changed the whole meaning of what the title implies. Its wrong. Simple as. I refuse to waste more time trying to tell you in a polite way when you just get snappy. And no. Iv still not read your thread.
Neither will I return.

Re: Robert Downey Jr. retiring as Iron Man :(

You forgot Harrison Ford IS Indiana Jones.

Ditto on as long as there are bucks to be made there are millions of Actors out there for these roles

Shatner IS Kirk. Nimoy IS Spock. Connery IS Bond.

None of this matters if there's money to be made. To insist that there's only one actor that can embody a role is a terribly "fan-boy" way of looking at things. There is nobody that you/we can ENVISION as Tony Stark, but the actor is out there if they choose to go that route.

Reboot it? Without an origin story? Not saying it's impossible, but why the "reboot it" stance?

Lol I'm not being cocky this is the internet dimebag newspapers do this all the time, they publish a title on the front page to grab onlookers attention. People buy the paper to read the story, that's all I've done. There is nothing wrong with that title, in fact the places I read the interview at did the same exact thing, as soon as I saw it I was interested in reading it, "it's not rocket science". You have no interest in reading this thread then good riddance :\ Nothing in this thread is more wrong then yourself, go criticize someone else. This thread is here to discuss what the studio could do to keep RDJ around if he isn't sticking around, that's up to him and the studios.

Reboot it? Without an origin story? Not saying it's impossible, but why the "reboot it" stance?

Yeah they don't need a reboot, they can expand on the storyline with another storyline or chapter from the Marvel line, with someone else or like the stated above suits that RDJ does voice acting for

Re: Robert Downey Jr. retiring as Iron Man :(

Then the title should be something like "What Marvel can do when RDJ retires as Iron Man". Your ideas in your first post are nice and there's nothing wrong with them (In fact, they CAN lead to a nice discussion), but they don't match the title of the thread at all. Your thread title is a claim of fact, and when most people read something like that, they will be expecting links and articles about RDJ indicating that he officially said someting like he'd stop playing Stark after The Avengers 2.

When websites and newspapers have headlines that don't match the info in the article, I call it misleading and, ultimately, bad journalism. It's irritating, to say the least. That's why some people are getting upset.

Re: Robert Downey Jr. retiring as Iron Man :(

I read the thread thinking RDJ had said he was no longer going to play the character, which obviously isn't the case. The title is very misleading, and I suggest you change it to reflect the content

Re: Robert Downey Jr. retiring as Iron Man :(

Actually, Cap, Hulk, and Thor could all get away with not aging. Cap has the super-soldier serum in him. Hulk we could argue doesn't age because of the gamma radiation in him. And Thor is a god. Black Widow and Hawkeye, though, yeah, they'd age.

Actually Black Widow has been given the Soviet Version of the Super soldier Serum :Black Widow (Natalia Romanova) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I believe this is the same also given to Bucky Barnes aka The Winter Soldier, allowing the recipients to age more slowly and heal faster, in addition to enhancing their physiology with increased strength and stamina.

As for RDJ, he is almost 50 now. Even with his current Martial arts training making action films ave to be taking a toll on his body. As shown during the IM3 shoot injury is always a possibility, and every injury even if it heals up perfectly, there is still some residual effect. How much can his body takes before it finally says "No More"? And is he willing to possibly cripple himself for his career?

Re: "IF" Robert Downey Jr. retires as Iron Man, what "COULD" Marvel/Disney do to repl

I really hope he doesn't stop after Avengers 2. He is Tony Stark as many of you have said and when I first saw Iron-Man it made me realise how cool the character actually was. We can't have Stark without Downey!

If he does, I hope War Machine may play a bigger part if Stark was killed off or something?

Re: "IF" Robert Downey Jr. retires as Iron Man, what "COULD" Marvel/Disney do to repl

Well quite a few times in the comics, Rhodey took over the mantle as Iron Man when Tony Stark fell ill or couldn't perform... unfortunately the suit and power was said to drive him mad and that's when Tony would reappear.. I really like my first two suggestions of fixes as well as the CGI work around with RDJ voice acting for the suits or a new actor

Re: "IF" Robert Downey Jr. retires as Iron Man, what "COULD" Marvel/Disney do to repl

Marvel and Feige have already said they'll just cast another actor and continue the story, like others have already mentioned with Bond films

I'm sure that's exactly what they'll do, but honestly I'd prefer they just let the Iron Man character going on a very extended hiatus when RDJ is done because NOBODY is ever going to do it better.

I can't agree at all. I would love to see Jeffrey Dean Morgan - the actor who played The Comedian in Watchmen - handle the role, I think he could do really well.
