Besides, no one really knows how tall Blackbeard was. Legends abound where larger-than-life figures are concerned, but for all we know the guy was 5'5".
With the aid of a good cinematographer, a talented actor can convey the impression of being far more physically imposing on film than he is in real life.
Having read on Blackbeard, and understanding that he was likely well over 6-foot, my vision of an actor to play him would be closer to the Randall Tex Cobb of Raising Arizona (different get-up of course).
But just one big, mean, bad-ass muthafocha...
McShane though will carry the role well. Again, his talent enoguh brings plenty-o-might.
I think the filmmakers are just going for the star-value of the name 'blackbeard' and not worrying about historical accuracy. Jack is a fictional character and Blackbeard (in this movie) is being treated as such too.
I am looking forward to this...can't be any worse than 3.
ANYTIME factual stories are made to movies, they are never on target. I mean, lets face it... How can you fit a lifetime in a couple hours of film?
Movie were made to be an escapism, to ignite the imagination, and to place the viewer away from what a current reality could be. I have put long hours in working on films and tho, the critics can have the freedom to say what they want, the masses loved the Pirates movies and that means, more work for me. :lol
Consider movies like LOTR and Green mile where actors are made to look much different in size. John Rhys Davies-Orlando Bloom and Micheal Duncan Clarke-David Morse
