How to make an outline/blueprint?

Does anybody know how to trace an image in Illustrator so you can make a blueprint of it. Also how would you make it to life size in Illustrator so you can cut it out of something.

For example, I want to take this image of a fallout pistol

N99PISTOL.png

turn it into a blue print like this
Defender_10mm_by_Knightwatch.jpg

and than print it out to life size and cut it out

It would be really awesome if anybody knew any videos or threads covering a topic like this.

Thank You!

Why don't you just print it out to the size you want, then trace it by hand? It would take quite a bit of explanation to describe how to do that, but the jist of it is:

place the image in illustrator

using the pen tool, trace the image to the level of detail you require

hide or delete the image while leaving your trace in place

select all your lines. In the "transform" window with "constrain width and height proportions" selected, set either the width or height to the actual size of the pistol. It should scale the other dimensions to the same degree.

It should be ready to print.

Inkscape is a free vector program you can get offline. Really easy to use and you can save all your work as a PDF. There is a bunch of tutorials on YouTube how to do stuff with it. I downloaded it and just played around until I figured it out. What are you trying to vector out?

I agree with Ironfett, I have photoshop, and I just played around with the vector tools. Funny enough, I got my training watching videos from people adding digital art to their drawings they scanned in. Same basic principal.
