How to colour PVC flexible hose

Hi Lads

Does anyone know a good way to colour flexible plastic hose?

I'm making an ATAT pilot and have had around 20 samples sent to my house in search of that perfect colour

I've now decided to stuff it and just try and colour it myself

If I spray it it'll crack when it flexs.

So is there a way to lighten a hose colour, make it permanent and not prone to cracking

thanks

John

I would try either krylon fusion or dupli-color bumper paint.

Fusion chemically bonds with the plastic, so it should be crack-resistant. Plus it comes in dozens of colors.

Bumper paint is designed for car bumpers, so it's designed to have some flex to it. It comes in the most common car colors.

Your Local Hobby Shop should carry Pactra RC Paints or Parma FasKolors.

The Pactra is a lacquer-based paint with flex agent in it.

The Parma is water-based acrylic that also flexes.

Tamiya also makes and RC paint but our local shop doesn't carry it yet.

These are used on the Lexan bodies. Very flexible and won't chip or peel.

...oh and make sure to let it alone for proper drying...I have a tendency to get impatient when painting :)

Go to a body shop, they might be able to help you.
There is a softener for carpaint to be used on softer parts as bumpers.
It takes five times as long to bake but if the paint is applied thin, and the correct amount of softener is pored, it should work.

If it is going to be bending around and back and forth, I don't think I would use a paint. I would try dying it first. Try it on a scrap piece to make sure.
I really don't think paint will hold up otherwise!!!:)
