How Many Times Have You Re-purchased the Same Prop?

This is how I know I have a full blown addiction. I have bought and sold whole lightsaber collections over the years, even selling one and a month later re-buying it. So far I have owned:

2 Yoda TPM sabers
2 Vader ROTJ
3 Graflexes
3 Qui-gon
3 OB1 ROTS

And I am considering re-buying several others I once had. Next time I get in a financial rut, I'M KEEPING MY DAMN SABERS. I always regret it. So far I've come out even, but eventually I'm gonna want something back that's shot up in price, and then I'm gonna be hosed.

Any other flat out addcits out there who buy in spite of low funds, space, and even an awareness that they can simply live without the item?

I had 4 of these when I was a kid growing up in the '70's.

I've bought and sold a lot of Vader helmets and Yodas in my prop-cycle.

7 Vader helmets and 6 Yodas, I think.

I only bought one of those Exploration Set's as a kid... I was so dissapointed at the size I didn't buy another. (Man, if I knew THEN what i know now, I'd have bought a dozen and kept them in the shrinkwrap!) While it doesn't count as a "prop" persay, I did buy at least five or six AMT Enterprise models while growing up.

However, I DID just realize that I have about six Sonic Screwdrivers from the new Dr. Who series! I have no idea how I got so many! I know at least a couple were included with another prop, but as to the rest of them... no clue!

I'm pretty bad about comics too. I buy it, say "eh, I've read it," sell it wicked cheap, then re-buy it because I want to re-read it. But they're a lot cheaper than selling a $250 dollar prop, saying "gee, I really miss that," then hunting the rotten thing down again!

I've "repurchased" one or two things I've sold but if you want to talk about "upgrade-itis" I've got it bad. I've basically rebuilt my Kenobi ANH saber, part by part, about 3 times. I've had up to half a dozen Graflexes (wouldn't mind re-buying some of those) that I've sold off to finance other things--I did rebuy some Vader ROTJ parts. Sold the Solo Hero blaster I made to upgrade to the MR EE. Bought and sold some trooper buckets. I've bought and sold four or five Vader helmets to upgrade--though I did repurchase a DP Deluxe. That was my first Star Wars prop and I always hated selling it (we used the money to buy the ugliest couch in the universe which my kids have pretty much destroyed so that was money well spent) so I bought another DPD last year that I did the restoration work on.

So I guess I've done my fair share of re-buying. I've got a few things that I can't/wont sell. Ever. But for the most part my collection, like everybody else's, has a life of its own.

Too many times for both upgrade-itis and rebuying something I've sold. While I love my props they are somewhat a commodity and something comes along (house, baby, major repair, etc.) they will go if need be. One prop I hope to buy back someday (if the owner sells it) is my Porkins X-Wing helmet, that one hurt, but it was necessary at the time.

Every time I buy something I keep saying "this is the last one ..." but that usually isn't what happens! :lol

And as for upgrades, after all these years of having various models now I've got it *bad* as to what feels or looks "perfect" to me. I'm not a exactness fanatic, it's just more what looks right IMO now.

That is sweet! The "Raders Idol" was the first prop I ever made for sale - 10 at a convention, made of plaster and painted gold. I can't say they were truly accurate... the only reference i had was a couple of Topps (?) bubblegum cards, but people liked them a lot, and a person who bought one (so many years ago) said they still had it! I asked them to take a picture and send it to me... I'm almost afraid to see what it looks like!

The Larbel Obi-wan TPM is the only one I have bought multiple times (twice). Including the Z Design one I bought that makes that saber 3 times. I have bought multiple Obi-wan ANH and Luke ROTJ sabers, but always in the interest of upgrading or in the case of the Luke ROTJ, adding variation to me collection.

Now CDs....:eek

I've gone through a lot of props over the years in an effort to find the best item available. Too many times over the years what was advertised and what I got just didn't measure up to my expectations. I've taken a loss on an item several times, but I guess that's part of the learning process.

I built a Solo ANH blaster as my first prop, sold it to get the MR first version, then sold that to get the "elite" version.

I dont know HOW many various MPP's I have traded and sold. Hardware, Larbel, Parks...And I dont have a single one of them now. but someday I will:unsure

Ya impressive...

Apart from the obvious Vader helmet upgrades for me just the Larbel ANH Vader saber and Dooku/Padawan saber castings...

I have a very specific form of this prop addiction.

If I like the prop, and I mean really like it, I will buy multiple copies of it - sometimes from the same manufacturer/maker.

I don't sell.

I will even collect multiple variations on the same prop (static, working, toy, MR, Noble Collection, property shop versions, etc.).

The very few times I have ever parted with a prop it has been to gift a duplicate to someone who I knew would be wow'ed by it.

Mostly my addiction is focused on Star Trek but it has expanded to other sci-fi and even some fantasy.
