How do you display your prop badges/wallets ?

I am looking for new display ideas for my badge/wallet collection.
Currently they are displayed on the top shelf of my Detolf but it is getting rather cluttered and you cannot see them all in their full glory.

How do you display yours, I was thinking of getting some kind of shadow box on the wall to display them all in ?

Shadow box is the way to go. I have more badges, crests, shields than wallets so the logical choice was a shadow box.

It serves two purposes. 1, it stopped my wife nagging about the clutter on the bookcase and 2, keeps them free from dust and potential damage.

Also it makes a good conversation piece when we have guests over.

That sounds great but how do you attach them to the shadow box, some kind of double sided sticky pads ?

Here's how I display my Bladerunner wallet / badge

I use a similar method for some of mine, placing them in my detolf. Others are in shadowboxes. To attach mine to the shadowboxes, I cut two small holes in the backerboard and thread the badge clip or pin through the holes, locking it to the backerboard just like it was a uniform shirt. I'll try and post some photos shortly.

That depends on the badge. Take the Abbyshot Mad Max MFP shield it has a pin fastener on the back I cut a slot in the back of the board for the whole fastener to go through and used a scrap of card slid behind the pin to hold it in place.

Butterfly fasteners are easier, just push the pins through the backing. I have a lot of resin badges and I just use a blob of Blu-Tack (DAP BlueStik in the US) to hold them.

As you mentioned sticky pads I used to use them but found after a couple of years the tack went and the badge fell off, dunno maybe I got a bad batch of pads...who knows.

I display my BMF wallet on the counter of the store when I'm buying something

Here are a couple shots from part of my collection of real (dept. issued) and prop badges, etc. The pic with the clapper board was a temp table setup at a police show. The bottom photo is a portable display case I use to show parts of the collection at police conventions.

Fantastic display Eltee.
What is the ladder type frame at the back of your cabinet with the badges clipped on?

Eltee-- I hate to hijack this thread, but you seem to be the person to ask! I'm hoping to find an accurate (or "close enough") wallet used by Dirty Harry. Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks!

No back to your regularly scheduled badges/wallet display thread...

That's why I posted the closeup. It is wire shelving. :cool

There are these shelving / storage stores where they sell wire shelving pre-cut or cut to order. I ordered up some to my specs and simply turned them sideways to hang stuff from.

Are you looking for just the wallet or a wallet set with badge, ID, etc.?

Here's one of my favorite shadow boxes. I have the officer's badge, union card, OLD wallet, police ID, medal, pocket booklet, pocket billy, patch, etc. mounted on it. I learned a trick from a museum. Use either monofilament or thin wire for an almost invisible mount, or use very heavy, coated wire for a visible, clamp like mount that you can cut to size. Touch up the cut end with black paint and it blends in well.

Some of these are attached with fishing line, some are held in place with the badge's pin run thru and secured to the backing and still others are attached with hot glue. It all depended on the items themselves and how heavy they were...

Michael's has a nice, large, black shadowbox that's about 2 inches deep that would be perfect for badges and wallets. It's not deep enough for something like a BR Blaster but it would be my first choice for stuff like what you have. If they were deeper, they would be perfect for lightsabers, blasters, swords, you name it.

I think it's around $50 but they are always like 40% off on this shadowboxes.

I checked their website but did not see the ones to which I am referring.

Hopefully you have a Michael's in your area or similar crafts store.

Beautiful displays. Are / were you an LEO?

How did you get the revolver to look imbedded into the back of the shadowbox? Cool effect.

Hiya, could you tell me where you got the lethal weapon I.D.s and wallets/badges from?
Jackisback

You can find pretty decent fan-made replicas of the lethal weapons ID cards on eBay and maybe even on RPF junkyard now and then. The badges are tougher to get, especially in California. The wallets can be had from Tex Shoemaker leather (Calif) or Gall's police supply (online, some stores in big cities).

My Lethal Weapon badge and ID sets are not currently on display, which is why they don't show in these pics. It is cluttered looking enough, so alot of stuff is in storage.

Thanks for the compliment. I'm not an LEO but my husband is. I really enjoy making the shadow boxes to display his badges. I used a high density foam I had left from an upholstery job and cut out the shape of the revolver. Then I covered that with the fabric and fit it so it fits a little tight so it would hold the revolver in.
