How do you add eye brows and eye lashes to a bust?

Just as the title states. I've never done this and before I do, I'd like some idea as to how difficult and expensive it is before I jump in.

It would be on a hollow bust, if that makes any difference.

I think it depends on what you want.

For a quick and easy solution, lace eyebrows made of human hair can be found on eBay. Fake eyelashes found just about anywhere. Both will require some careful trimming. It would be very cost efficient as well.. And there is always small room for error. More user friendly I suppose.

A lot more time consuming (but better looking in the long run if done right) would be glueing hair by hair. You'd need to understand and replicate the growth pattern accurately or it will look cheesy. To have someone do this for you would probably be up around the hundred-plus dollar mark depending on the artist.

Hmm, good info. I don't think I'd be up for trying to do this hair-by-hair since it's my first time doing something like this. Plus shipping it to someone would kill me.

I just worry about having the "fighting caterpillar" eye brows that so many busts seem to have.

In my opinion these are the two things that KILL a nice bust. I have not seen any male busts with pre-made eyelashes or eyebrows that look good. Eyebrows either end up with horrible visible lace edges or they're crazy thick. Eyelashes always look like they belong to a woman as pre-made ones all need cut down which makes the tips too thick and where they attach to the eyelids is also too thick. Eyelashes need to taper away to nothing at the ends or they stand out as fake a mile away.

The only way you'll get them to look decent is to use individual hairs glued on. Personally I use my own eyebrow hairs for both eyelashes and eyebrows (depending on the thickness - Arnie's brows are super thick so you can get away with using cut down wig hairs), individually superglued on. Yeah, the crazy things we do for our hobby....

Your own hair? Man, that has to hurt!

How do you glue them down, with super glue?

And it's funny you should mention doing an Arnold bust, as this question pertains to a Terminator bust! It's an original design...although it would be built on a bust made by a SPFX company. It would have a lot of battle damage so I'd probably only need one eye brow and eye lash, and with all the weathering and blood....a lot of the issues with the brows and lashes could be covered up.

This is the Arnie bust I did (well, one of them!). The eyebrows were done using hair from the wig cut down to size and applied using PVA/Elmers glue in small clumps before drybrushing some different shades on (which also helps thin them a bit as un-stuck hairs are knocked off).

The eyelashes are real eyebrow hairs. Doesn't hurt at all really - I have pretty thick eyebrows, so quite a few loose hairs are pulled free with each gentle pull. I use tweezers and superglue to apply one at a time to the bust. Its hard to get the flow and "randomness" right, and the lower lid it tougher than the top (and still not technically accurate), but it's better than anything painted onto the bust, or created from fake eyelashes that I've seen.
