Hey Jason,

With VashDstampede's Han in Carbonite project stepping up a gear, I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to see some pics of your Han Carbonite door.
I'd love to know how you mounted it flat against the door etc.
Can you spill the beans and show off your handiwork?

Cheers,

Chris

Sure thing:

I screwed it to the door, and used a "crap load" of spackle. Took it off the hinges, propped it up in the back yard, sanded it and sanded it until it looked like it was "supposed" to, chatted with curious neighbors about that "really" being my back door and how yes, my wife "must rock", sealed it with brushable polyurethane. Painted it up with a couple rattlecans that looked like "carbonite" to my eye, and rehung the door.

That's about as complicated as it got! It is in no way screen accurate, especially with the dead bolt and knob, But hey, it's an IC cast - the only thing screen used about those was the Harrison Ford face ILM provided. The rest (hands, body) was recreated from photo reference. The real panel was apparently never cast, from what i have been told.

I'd like to have just the head and shoulders of that behind a door in my kitchen, so as to have "Han in Cabinite".

:D

I'll go now.

Thanks Jason,

That's the photo which prompted my request. Great display room!
I was hoping to see some more pics of the Han Carbonite door itself - would you be able to take some?

Very interesting to hear about the body being sculpted instead of cast. Whoever did it made a fantastic job of getting all the subtle creases and shapes just perfect. I would never have believed that it wasn't a direct casting from the whole of the front panel of the real prop!

Cheers,

Chris

hahaha, hardly heaven!

Chris, I'll take better pics this weekend for you, in better light. Here's some random ones I have laying around:

Is a member going to be casting up some Han's? That's what the first post sounds like. I can't seem to find the thread in the junkyard.

It's pretty easy to do - and hey, you don't need to worry about those pesky side panels :)

Moffeaton... all i can say is I am ahuge Cure fan also...am working hard to complete my vintage Cure CD collection... right now I have about 35-40 of there albums, most from the late 70s and into the 80s. Did I mention I love the Cure?

Oh and I love the Han door :)

That's so weird I was going to do that same thing with the inside of my office door, but the han's face would bang into the shelf over my closet...now that I see that...I might unmount it from the wall and do it anyway.
Very cool thanks for sharing the pics.
