HEV Suit - Gordon Freeman - Half-Life

Hi all, I'm in the middle of a complete foam armour build for my HEV Suit from Half-Life. I have the under suit and gloves on commission and I'm currently scoping the market to have the boots commissioned somewhere too.

Just wondering if any veterans here would know of any builders/sellers/shops who can fulfil top notch looking boots?

Thanks in advance!

Did you complete the custume? Interested in renting it out? I'm in Canada and would be willing to provide a deposit if you are interested.

Regaards,

Hey, this is excellent. Bravo! How far did you get?

I'm working on a PetG version of the HEV. Did you get the model from somewhere? It look similar, but a little different from the Valve high res pic of Gordon.

Honestly, I'm a bit jammed up mentally ... "True to game" or "True to Valve highrez" or "off the shelf".

I've got a lot of CAD modeling ahead.

Kind of tempted to do a HL1 version too, not many have done that.

To your question - I was going to 3D print the boots in TPU, with a 'last' more or less my size. Not sure if it'll work. Otherwise, really it looks like some pieces on a black hiking shoe/tennis/sneaker boot.

That suit is looking awesome my friend! love this franchise to death. I can't offer any assistance but take some encouragement! looking forward to seeing the end result

Very curious how this would turn out. Make a thread if you do.

Hey man thanks for the kind words! In terms of how far I've gotten:

It's purely based on a 3D artists fanart of the Mk V suit from HL2, that's all it is, just fanart. You can find some of his work online, he's a 3D modeller for Little Red Zombies who do modelling work for game dev companies.

My advise on accuracy, it's totally up to you in the end, but I would HIGHLY advise on going with practicality if you want you achieve some level of comfort when wearing it. I've had to make a few sacrifices on details because, the reality is, is that these 3D models look great as a concept but are are nightmare with mobility in real life, even though I've been 100% adamant on maintaining accuracy until about half way through. I've (begrudgingly at first) since notched that down to 85% - 90% accuracy because I actually would like to go up and down stairs in the suit lol.

Let me know how you get on, there's very few of us HEV builders out there, I'll be interested! I'm mostly on Instagram/Facebook/Reddit but I know some folk like it old school on forums :p

Excellent!

Sorry for the late reply, I had a lot of stuff going on, thought I posted a reply but didn't.

Things are normalizing a little bit! I have to finish my Companion cube first, but I'm slowly working on the CAD for the HEV.

I hear you about practicality. I would be wearing mine at Burning Man, among other places. Probably at night, but still.

Also, I like the approach of the uprezzing. The game model has very clean lines that in person end up being slightly too smooth I think. Lacking detail.

I thought that fan art image was official art / teaser art for a while but did track down the original a while back.

I'm actually think of doing the Mark IV, but it's even less practical. No possibility of thigh movement at all, seemingly.

It's funny to me because medieval armor worked out all of these issues. If something doesn't look EXACTLY like Gothic plate (without frills or their own frills), it's just not going to work. I mean, those things were worked out "in blood".

I got Armorsmith, and will fiddle with it. Haven't completely decided which way to go yet (Mark IV or V) In the back of my mind I have this desire to build in some liquid tubes for cooling, but that's probably way overkill.

I did do a Gordon Freemen at Burning man last year. Most people didn't get it. I had a white lab coat, white dockers, blue shirt, red and blue tie, and an ID card that I'd uprezzed from in game photos. The black hornrim glasses. A crowbar ... and a head crab. "The real Gordon Freeman - eaten by a headcrab".

So I was chatting with a fellow Gate volunteer who was "what is this all about". I explained to her.

Then I stood up, slapped on the head crab plushie hat, and grabbed the crowbar, and from behind me a guy yelled "GORDON FREEMAN??!?!?!" I stood up and got this huge bear hug.

My friends eyes got really wide. "Now I get it".

Yup.

We do what we must, because we can!
