Excellent!
Sorry for the late reply, I had a lot of stuff going on, thought I posted a reply but didn't.
Things are normalizing a little bit! I have to finish my Companion cube first, but I'm slowly working on the CAD for the HEV.
I hear you about practicality. I would be wearing mine at Burning Man, among other places. Probably at night, but still.
Also, I like the approach of the uprezzing. The game model has very clean lines that in person end up being slightly too smooth I think. Lacking detail.
I thought that fan art image was official art / teaser art for a while but did track down the original a while back.
I'm actually think of doing the Mark IV, but it's even less practical. No possibility of thigh movement at all, seemingly.
It's funny to me because medieval armor worked out all of these issues. If something doesn't look EXACTLY like Gothic plate (without frills or their own frills), it's just not going to work. I mean, those things were worked out "in blood".
I got Armorsmith, and will fiddle with it. Haven't completely decided which way to go yet (Mark IV or V) In the back of my mind I have this desire to build in some liquid tubes for cooling, but that's probably way overkill.
I did do a Gordon Freemen at Burning man last year. Most people didn't get it. I had a white lab coat, white dockers, blue shirt, red and blue tie, and an ID card that I'd uprezzed from in game photos. The black hornrim glasses. A crowbar ... and a head crab. "The real Gordon Freeman - eaten by a headcrab".
So I was chatting with a fellow Gate volunteer who was "what is this all about". I explained to her.
Then I stood up, slapped on the head crab plushie hat, and grabbed the crowbar, and from behind me a guy yelled "GORDON FREEMAN??!?!?!" I stood up and got this huge bear hug.
My friends eyes got really wide. "Now I get it".
Yup.
We do what we must, because we can!
