hi there,
We (me and my board fellow MurdocXXl) wanted to show our next project. we were working for several weeks now on a printed Hero Diary and we are about to finish it finally. There is just one insert missing. Murdoc`s part was the book binding and the layout, mine mostly was the (re-)drawing of the graphics and the inserts.
Here are some examples of the redrawn pages, more of the most known pages are attached to this post.

After making all the drawings and the layout, we finally printed the diary, aged the pages and then there was some solid book binding handwork left to do........

The finished books were completed with inserts and the cover was aged:

Good work my friends! ;)

Re: Hero Diary Indiana Jones - WIP / Show Off (Pic Heavy !)

thanks you :)
I forgot to mention, that the comparison shots between the known original pages and our drawings are not always represent the final graphic. The "In the Queste" page drawing is updated for example. I just choose some from the tons of pictures to present the process, we went through

Thanks to everbody for your comments... realy glad you like our work!

Stefan wrote that we "were working for several weeks" on the Diary....hehe...i think he wanted to write since months (about a year or so). From the first "thoughts", source collecting and so on! A realy time-killing project, but it turned out realy nice ;)

Also from my side "A big thank you for all the kind help and support goes to the members on COW !!"
We wouldn't be able to realice this project without this help!

That's awesome,

I have always want to make on of these but I have not the steady hand to draw out the pic or write it out.

How did you go about creating the printable pages?

well, since the drawing part was mine, I can tell you how I did, but there are of course many many more possibilities. I printed pictures of the known pages of the hero diary in DIN-A4 size retraced and them with help of a light box. Then I scanned the new picture again and reworked it in Photoshop. Sometimes I retraced just the scaled printout. Sometimes I draw freehand, sometimes I only need to use Photoshop.

The text of each single page was written in Photoshop by MurdocXXL using a "Henry Jones" computer font.

text and pictures were arranged in layers, so they can get moved according to the original pages.

before we were able to do this, some very expensive work and investigation was needed . Club Obi-Wan is a great place to start at.....

ps: I wanted to write "printed" instead of printable diary.....

This is absolutely amazing.

I would like to know about that binding method, if you wouldn't mind MurdocXXL.

Sure Beesa...

The "holes" for the binding are made into the Signatures with a special book-
binding tool, a kind of caliber to get the holes exactly at the same places all over the 16 signatures. Which you see here in the upper area of the pic.

The book is handstiched as your can see here....

After the flysheets are glued to the book-block the complete block is glued and secured with book-binding-mull.

The final blook gets trimmed and the leather-cover, which is prepared before on cardboard, is glued to the flysheets.

Thats it ... more or less ;)

Hope to serv you with this infos. If you have further questions please let me know.

regards

Wow! Nice job. This is one that I am going to tackle but not for a few more years. Where does everyone get the printable versions of the known pages? I have lots of snapshots of known and invented pages but nothing I would consider print worthy unless I did lots of cropping and image resizing.

i have edited the thread above with the pic of the glued book block.

@ac385 you do not get the pages for the Hero Diary as printable versions. For our Diary, as seen above, each and every single page is builded up in Photoshop by our own, with many many layers of text and drawings. Greatest place for informations about the pages you will have at the Grail-Diary section at COW ;)

I’m sorry, I didn’t convey my question very well. I intended to ask where everyone obtains clear enough photos of the hero drawings as a starting point to print off and recreate by had. As is usually the case though I just found what I needed and now have good pics of all the hero drawings, inserts and text. One day I will get around to creating my own. Again, wonderful job, it looks great!

ac385,

did you find those over at COW or at another source?

I am wanting to start this long term project as well.

Much more information about the pages you will find at COW. Such informations as which pages to be "colored" or placement of the inserts. But the link posted by ac385 has been used for our research as well. Thanks for postin ac385!
