Hi all.

I am desperate for some help; any help. I have a Resin Indiana Jones Golden Idol and six years ago I sprayed it with a Gold colour Spray called Plasti Kote. well I used Modelstrip as instructed and it is not getting it off. There are some patches that have gone down to bare resin, but the rest is so stubborn. It is chipping off if I use my thumb nail but that's about it. I need to find something that is strong enough to get that crud off but will not damage my resin idol.

PLEASE HELP ME.

I thank you in advance.

Paulio.

You might try Super Clean. It comes in a purple spray bottle. I got a bottle at Walmart. It removes chrome plating from styrene parts without damaging the plastic. Soak it overnight. Might work for this too.

There's also power purple, it's pretty cheap. I never had it hurt resin but it's always best to check on a small spot first.

I have used foam oven cleaner in the past, seemed to work well and did not touch the resin.

Soaked overnight.

Easy Off oven cleaner. I've used that on resin many time and never had a problem with it. It works fairly fast and depending on the thinkness of the paint one coat might be enough.

Easy off seconded. It took 6 year old enamel paint off styrene with not a bit of melt on the surface; All it took was 15 minutes and a light brushing with an old toothbrush.

Easy Off Over Cleaner! Get a see thru Zip-Lock plastic bag. Generously spray the part in question with the oven cleaner and then place into the bag and seal tight. Let sit for a few hours (ALWAYS WATCHING to make sure your model is ok). Remove form the bag and then use a soft brush (as Hjholter3 mentioned - toothbrish is perfect) to begin removing material. You may have to let it sit over night and/or apply more depending how thick/stubborn the coating is...

Good Luck!

I've used 91% rubbing alcohol to successfully remove Krylon and other paints. You can try that, and if it doesn't work, go with the rest of the gang's suggestions.

I use Plastikote paint all the time. It's automotive paint. It's an Acrylic Laquer. You need laquer thinner. You can get it at an auto paint store or hardware store. It will strip the paint to the bare resin. I always apply with and old toothbrush and cloth. You must do this outside (due to fumes) and use gloves. The thinner will absorb into skin and take the oils out of your skin if you dont. It's also extremely flammable. Try not to breathe the fumes if you can.

Hope this helps.
