HELP! Can anyone identify this piece of plastic?

I need help with this... I have a prop that is supposed to have two of these little pieces of plastic on it (together they would make an almost perfect half-circle). One of them has been lost, and I was hoping maybe this piece of plastic is a common item that I could replace. (Like maybe the visor from an action-figure fighter helmet or something, that's all I can think of...). In the first image, you can see that the 'lip' of piece is fairly thin, but the bottom of it is much thicker (as can be seen in the 4th image, it's now sitting on the thin side). It's a translucent dark gray. I've attached an image, if anyone can provide any info to help locate a replacement, that would be awesome.

Thanks, Rik

Well, it isn't lego, I think that's safe to say.

What's the prop? Context might help and it would date the peice. If it's from the 50's that cuts back on the possible answers. :cool

Sorry, should have thrown that in there... It's Aeon's ring from Aeon Flux. It's supposed to open and have little 'tools' in it (I think the little ball-bearing mines she used in the movie). On screen they covered it with a CGI effect, so you don't really see it very well...

Here's a picture of the complete prop and how it's supposed to work:

I'm just missing half the orb. I was hoping this wasn't a custom made piece... Could the one I have be easily cast maybe? (I don't really know anything about casting/molding pieces...)

It actually does look like Lego to me.
I'm sure there was a little round cockpit window - The strip that attached to a row of studs on the bottom's just been dremmelled off, if that's what this indeed is.
Scouring the web now!

It's not lego. I was a Lego fiend as a kid. Still am kind of. I have somewhere around 2 million of them. I have parts and catalogues going back to the late 80's. Lego hasn't made anything like that until recently. And, before you jump on that, they still don't or ever have made parts of that size, shape, or color. Not even in the super modern Lego sets with insanely fancy peices. Closest thing in Lego to that, is a full dome about 2 inches across.

Now, megablocks or some other off-brand lego could be a possibility.

Just to throw in my 2 cents, it is definitely not a plastruct hemisphere - their walls are equal thicknesses throughout. I use them all the time. Also, that plastic certainly looks as if it were cast in that color - not surface colored as a clear plastruct hemi would have to be.

The extremely odd variation in the thickness of the walls makes it look custom cast, not like a found object.

Good luck!

I do believe that it is indeed custom made. Looks like a simple resin cast, that would be why its thicker at the top than at the edges.
My limited experience in casting makes me think it was just MADE
