Helmet padding, any tips or pointers?

Hello!

So I'm almost done sanding down and cutting my Pinski helmet, and I'm going to try and start painting it this weekend.
I think I have the visor figured out now, but I'm really struggling with the padding for the inside of the helmet.

I've seen a few people mention making it from scratch, but I can't really find any specifics for types of material, etc.
I was thinking of buying a motorcycle helmet and just cannabilizing the inside of it for my Dredd helmet, but again, I don't really know if there is any specific helmet type people seem to like.

If anyone has any ideas, suggestions, or sites they could point me to, that would be great!

Thank you so much!

Hi

Do they sell helmet padding material on ebay where you are?

Alternatively, I've managed to pick up some dense upholstery foam which i'm trying out. I've also bought a cheapie exercise mat which i can cut up to try out on my lid as well

Yes, if you look at the thread titles above your thread title......scroll back to the thread "Stuck: The definitive Dredd 2012 helmet research thread", you will find pics from a member who has removed the liner from a screen used helmet and laid the parts out. You can use a marking pen to draw the rough outline on a piece of foam about the thickness of your index finger. Make it larger than you think you need. Fit it into the helmet, remarking the finished size as needed, with the pen. cut the corrections......doesn't need to be precise, because you will ultimately cover it by gluing fabric over it, wrapping it around the back side and gluing it. Then the whole thing gets glued or hook n' loop attached to the inside of your bucket.
