Helmet liner - what have you guys used?

I've got a helmet that is an empty fiberglass shell and I want to put some kind of liner inside, for custom fit, comfort, and looks. And it would be great if it didn't make the helmet way too hot to wear.

What have you guys had success with? I want something that looks like a "real" helmet liner, like for a motorcycle helmet or athletic helmet, so that when I take the helmet off, the inside looks good, something like a modern motorcycle helmet lining in black would be good. Ideally it would be something I can customize and adjust as much as possible size-wise.
I've seen some motorcycle helmet liners for sale, but I don't really want to just order something blindly.
The sides of the helmet come down the side of my face a bit, so I don't want some kind of cheap foam that will irritate my skin.
Thanks in advance for any tips.

I've used liners from a used motorcycle helmet I picked up at a thrift store...ya just need to find your size and one that you can modify for the helmet you are placing it in...
A friend also told me snowmobile helmets have easier to deal with liners/insides.

Good question.
Here is a picture of the helmet. It comes down low in the back and also on the sides of the face. I wouldn't mind if some of the liner showed on the sides near the face. Might look better that way actually.

Really? What about when you get hot and it gets sweaty? (if that happens).
Hm, maybe I could do some EVA foam with some fabric over it. I do like the idea of using foam that I can cut, shave and adjust to just the right sizes and thicknesses...

I use head liner material. The same stuff that is used in cars. You can find it at an upholsery supply or sometimes PEPBOYS carries it. Just cut it and glue it in work great because it has fabric on one side.

haven't done it yet myself, but looking at a Baseball or T ball helmet to use the liner from that. Been told by a few folks they work well.

I just buy the cheapo baseball helmets a wally world and carefully remove the padding and attach that to the inside of my helmets

Ive made padding out of cheep foam knee pads from home depot cut into differant shapes and covered in a cut up t-shirt.

heres the padding i made for my recon helmet:

I made my own. Some basic sewing skills and a little trial and error and anything is possible.

Glad I started this thread. There are some great tips in here and I like hearing everyone's different methods they've come up with.
I think I'm leaning toward doing some EVA foam with fabric over it so that I can customize everything. Similar to the home depot knee pad example above. But I'm thinking some standard sheets of square EVA might be cheaper and easier to work with. Anyone have a good idea of where to get EVA foam in different thicknesses (and in small quantities?)
