Hayao Miyazaki's Ponyo DVD

Well having sat through this movie four times with my rugrat it has dawned on me that this is one of the stranger Hiyao Miyazaki's animated movies. The animation is wonderful as usual but the story is a bit freaky and a little hard to follow.

My kid freaks out every time the "waves with eyes" start going after Sosuke!

I love all of Miyazaki's feature animated movies mostly My Neighbor Totoro but each year they seem to be getting weirder and weirder! :confused

Yeah. I love the movie and so do my kids but none of us can begin to tell you why things work the way they do in this world. Miyazaki's art reminds me of a beautiful woman. She's so stunning to look at you're willing to let a lot of stuff slide.

Ponyo's a hard one to really get into, isn't it? It's so damn freeform.

It's a shame Miyazaki Snr. doesn't have a better relationship with Goro, and that Goro's so ambivalent about directing. I know he had a lot of help, but frankly I thought Tales from Earthsea was considerably better than Ponyo.
