Harrmy's Star Wars Despecialized 2.5

I did up a screenshot comparison of four versions, Technicolor, Silver Screen, Harmy's and Special Edition. Mind you, the Technicolor screenshots are photographs off the screen. But they all give a different impression.

Thanks for doing that, Wayne!

In each of the 3 screencaps, I strongly feel that the Silver Screen versions are the truest to what I saw in the theater during that magical summer of 1977. Although, perhaps my opinion of the Technicolor screencaps would improve if I could see screencaps that were actual screencaps and not photographs off a screen. But based strictly on the comparisons you've posted, it seems clear to me that the Silver Screen version is the best and truest.

Yeah, the technicolor screencaps are not an accurate representation. However, the Silver Screen version does need some tweaking (color/grain/dirt/scan issues), but other than that, it's the best out there.

Yes, I just watched from when Ben finds Luke until he asks him to accompany him to Alderaan, and then jumped to when Chewie roars at the mouse droid, and this Silver Screen version is not entirely consistent. Next time I watch Star Wars, I'll do so with the Silver Screen version, to get an overall sense of how well they've recaptured the look and feel of the 1977 theatrical cut.

I'd noticed that too. But some scenes are nice and clear, while others are too grainy. At least it's not that obvious, from shot to shot.

ANH was never a sharp film, it always had a grainy look. Especially the scenes shot in Tunisia which were shot with soft lenses, overcast weather, dirt.

Yeah, they did. It's funny. I vaguely remember color issues throughout the film when I saw the re-release back in 1981.

If anything it helps the film. Tatooine is supposed to be dirty and gritty. And the lack of soft focus, dirt etc helps the Death Star scenes, making the Empire feel even more cold and sterile :)

anyone have any suggest putting these files on blurays? anyone willing to burn these to bluray for me?

i dont have any way of burning it, plus after seeing some walk throughs on youtube i dont think i can even pull off figuring out the download :( i was hoping to find someone willing to download and burn it for me, ill cover all the costs

Some googling will take you to the instructions page for downloading.

The second option is the best. You do have to download FreeRapid Downloader and subscribe to a forum for the download links.

Currently downloading 2.7!
