Han in Carbonite / LIT PANEL

... for the lit 'Number' / 'Digit' portion of this [kind of alarm clock looking numbers] (Don't have any caps to show).

Don't think string LEDs would pull this off too well, so didn't know if anyone knew of any similar looking lights.

Any suggestions welcome

if you have an electronics surplus store near you, they may have similar led type numerical readouts. I think the original prop numerical readouts may have been a discontinued "fossil", maybe even gas filled?

You can get the led numerical readouts and get them to flash with a ten led blinker board kit. Jist figure out what connections light what on the readout and solder wires to them from the blinker board.

This is a standard 10 led blinker board kit put together (very easy to do)

and the numerical readouts. The red "bar" looking sections are individual numerical readouts bought in bulk from "all electronics". They are close in size and the actual readout to the originals. The otehr boards are also kits, some have adjustable flash, one is a strobe...

In a pinch you may even be able to alter a standard led bike brake light safety blinker to light a numerical readout.

Thanks Robstyle-

No real surplus stores around here... (Would Radio Shack carry any of the likes?), if not, any other names that may ring a bell?

I'm sure it's more simple when you get down to it, but have never done any hands on, and is a little Greek to me (no offense to any Greek members - I'm Greek, but only thru my college frat, etc.) So when you mention blinker, etc, I get what you're saying, but don't know what one looks like or where to find, etc.

So just a little unsure, when you say it's easy to do, etc.

Any LEDs for Dummies advice would be great (Just speak louder and slower...)

I am handy and electronic savy, just need a little lead (LIke with modifying a brake light , etc.)

Thanks again.

The best "blinking" display I found was from Carl's Electronics. I think this is their website:

www.carlselectronics.com

or try

www.electronickits.com

There are several flashing kits out there, but this one (called a PIC Flasher) allows for lots of LEDs to be added, blinking at different rates.

I used one pic flasher and hooked it up to the 8 segment displays to get them to light up randomly. That's my best advice for this panel. You're just not going to find an 8 segment that has that +/-. I looked all over and never found one.

The rest of the lights were hooked up to the same power source - a single 9 volt battery. If you want to get very detailed, add a rotary switch to that second knob and sodder specific LEDs to it. You'll get the same display Lando got when he turned the knob to make sure Han was still "alive". I attached another switch to the first knob, which was used to turn the entire thing off/on.

The entire light assembly will cost you at least $100. I tried offering them over at the HIC Builders board a few years ago, but the run never happened due to lack of interest.

I suppose the panel could be lit up for less $, but you'll definitely be trading in $ for accuracy.

When I get a chance, I'll load the photos I have of the lighted panel I made a few years ago for JediVigneri. I have yet to build one of these for myself. :D

I went a head and created a poll over at the HICBuilders club at yahoo about a Hero panel light kit.

If any one is interested, please feel free to check out the poll and vote.

If you have trouble logging in or can't find the poll, simply post a reply here and I'll just add you to the poll.

Price for a light kit will be around $100. Of course the more people we can get on the run, the lower the price per unit.

I was no electroncs, and still am not, expert. To build one of the led blinker board kits, if you can fit the square and round pegs in the right holes, you can build the kit.

Also,
if you have any dollar stores near you, check out the toys and seasonal items sections. I had found a small x-mas tree blinking ornament that had an on off switch and clear x-mas lights thats perfect for the main panel window lighting. Cheesy but it would do the job for the casual looker.
