Hey all!
Okay, so I've been a member for going on a year now (Lurking, mostly...) and with the advent of the Halloween season I figured it was time to get a decent build log out there. I posted a few pics of last years Halloween duds-my Red Skull cosplay. But, as is always the way with a propmaker or costumer, I felt the need to outdo myself. I bounced around quite a few ideas for this year's Halloween, and it came down to Van Helsing from the 2004 movie or an original design for a Steampunk Batman. Being a glutton for punishment, Batsy won out!
I pored over "Gotham by Gaslight" and scrutinized the wonderful (and not so wonderful) Steampunk Batman costumes on the 'net, eventually coming up with a very industrial look for the Bat. Since I had a bunch of EVA foam, foamboard and cardstock lying around in my workroom, I'm hoping can keep this build to under $50.
But enough with the backstory already! Here's the progress thus far. Below are my favorite reference pic, progress on the vembraces, knuckle plates, and some of my preliminary sketches.
