GOTG: Star-Lord annihilation build (Help!)

I just want to start out and say I am really impressed with all the Guardians builds off the movie especially Star-Lord. As much as I love the movie look I am more keen on a Annihilation Helmet build as of now. I am to say it the easiest way a novice at replica and prop building. I can't find consistent pictures of any one variant of the helmet that I like except for a bust that's coming out later this year. I'll post some pictures and see if anyone could give some pointers on where to begin.

At my last local con I saw a French Firefighting helmet called the Gallet. Although pricy, It looks like a great base for the helmet. Using any of the helmets for the movie and modifying it to fit under the Gallet, may work a treat.

The movie costume definitely took a while to grow on me because it was so different from the Abnett and Lanning comics. I'm with Jackal, I'd start by finding some sort of pre-existing helmet. I know I can almost always go into a thrift store and find a bike or batting helmet for $2-5, and they make great starting points.Even though they are typically kids helmets, they work for me if I pop put the foam lining, and I have a pretty big head. :p

From there I'd gut off any excess and just start adding on to it. I usually start by covering the holes that may be in the dome on the inside and filling them with bondo. Then I pattern out and add on more pieces to achieve whatever look I'm going for. My go to material is usually cardboard which then gets coated in fiberglass and bondo, but I imagine you could get good results with thin sintra, styrene or foam. For the face, if you don't want to make it fully from scratch, you could always print out the pepakura patterns for the movie helmet and modify them to the shape that you want.

Also thought you might like this reference image, if you haven't already seen it:

Love the Annihilation Star-Lord! I would personally try to find some sort of world war 2/1 replica helmet and sculpt/build the fins and bill to it. I'm with bh1138 for this build. I'm excited to see how this turns out

Thanks everyone for the ideas, I'll go out this weekend to the local shops and flee markets and see what I can find, I'll try to update as often as possible but this isn't my main priority yet. As of right now I feel like I'm leaning towards a mostly pep build, aside from the helmet (but who knows). Thanks KaptainJosh for the file, I'll try there first and see how it goes. ww1 french helmet 001.JPG I like this helmet as a base except the back doesn't extend as far as I'd like, but that could be altered. Oh well there are ton of possibilities from what I can see, so Ill get to work. Thanks Again everyone.

You have excellent taste, sir! I'm doing pretty much the same build out of pepakura, and I'm using a Pickelhaube (German WW1 helmet) without the spike as my base. I found mine at http://www.tamasoft.co.jp/pepakura-en/gallery/list.php?len=0&lim=20&sort=0&cate=5&search_words=, and it's 1283, about halfway down.

Just wanted you to know I put together a build over the weekend. Looks okay, its my first ever pep build and it looks like a helmet(ish) it kinda pulls itself in. Well I plan on getting a form put together to help bend it out properly. Ill modify the build before I do a resin coat, after I'm happy with how the helmet itself looks I will move onto the sides (ear circles), and begin roughing out the mask. I'll post pictures as I go ahead with the resin.

Awesome, I'm looking forward to seeing it! I'll have to update with my own pics/topic once I get my (now second) pep helmet and mask folded and glued and all that jazz. Good luck! ^^

20140803_171030.jpgHey guys, wanted to show the progress. Took me awhile to get this far, a lot of trial and error. Before modifying the pep the helmet fit, now its getting tight, any suggestions moving forward or should I wait until it's ready for a casting? Anyways I'm debating if I want to make it all one helmet or if I should make the face mask removable. I don't necessarily want to start from scratch but if I need to I will.
