Got my life-sized male mannequin head!

I would like to try to sculpt a mask on him, but not sure what. I would like to try using slush latex. Any ideas on what I should try that is not gore? What's not been done yet?

I'd LOVE to see a Jim Carrey Grinch mask. :-D

I recently bought a 'life-sized' adult male mannequin that turned out to be way too small and oddly shaped. It was a styrofoam head off of Amazon...what's yours made out of / where did it come from?

I bought my mannequin head from MonsterMakers, and it's made out of hard plastic.

just about anything would suffice as far as scuplting and i use plaster strips from the local hobby shop - get them for about $10 a roll and then back them with fiberglass - once thats done just pour in your latex, and make sure the entire surface of the insde is coated with latex. once the latex cures you can pull it out - if the cast is smooth enough you wont NEED a release agent, but it couldnt hurt

making the cast you might wanna try a release agent - PAM is the best!

Wait. This is way out of my league and I'm not grasping the concept. I don't understand what you mean. :cry

I was going to use the male mannequin to build a sculpt on...or even just use a different armature, but at least I will have the measurements of this mannequin to work off of to make sure it's the right scale. And then I was going to make a mold of that with Ultracal, and then pour the slush latex.

Thanks for the suggestions! This looks very tempting and I might do this actually!

Would I be able to mask a slush latex mask out of this, if I stiffened it up with fiberglass?

if you are doing the green hornet mask, why not just make a silicone mold and cast it in resin? but since this is your first go around a plaster mold and a latex cast might be easier.

Actually I didn't think of that! I could try that route, too. I've done smaller scale silicone molds and casts in resin, like 1:6 scale.

I have a previous version of the MonsterMakers mannequin torso. Definitely an invaluable tool to have. And yes, for slush casting latex, making your sculpt with clay and molding in Hydrocal is the way to go.

You are off to a great start with one of those Sculpting Forms!

If you ever need advice or tips on creating a Custom Mask I can help you or you can get a lot of great advice from the FX Lab Forums, there are many Professional Sculptors and Mask-makers on the forums that are there offering great advice (As well as the many talented folks here too!!)

Wow! That tutorial helped so much! Thank you! I'm kinda scared to do an entire sculpt encompassing the head after the ninja turtle fiasco.

I think I'm going to make the Ursus helmet instead of a mask. Yes...this is what I want to do.
