Global Effects is cleaning out it's attic.

Well how about that – I’ve been encouraging my brother to try to track down the ship’s makers, and perhaps I’ve stumbled on the answer! Below are the auction photos plus an overhead shot I took when it arrived last year. Due to the distinctive weathering, it very clearly screen-matches to most of the flying shots.

From what I gather, there were four miniature versions in the film: this resin/plastic/metal hero (with a mounting point in the right nacelle); an identical cast foam stunt for the bouncing sequence; a larger SFX model for raising the ship vertical (more closely resembling the full-scale set), and then smaller ships for juxtaposing with the command ship.

Understanding that this was over 30 years ago, any memories at all that you’re willing to share about these builds – or really any of the work you did on the film – would be fantastic. We grew up with it, so there’s a nostalgia element, but I honestly think even as an adult it’s a really fun watch and sadly underrated.

If you do have anything left over that you’d like to sell, we’d absolutely be interested. Those helmets are honestly my favorite things in the film (well, next to the duck costume I suppose), so a piece related to those would be very cool.
I’ll PM my email in case that’s preferable. Thanks so much for replying!
Well, no, we did not build that ship. We built the long "Cactus" looking ships.

Ah, got it. Well those are quite cool-looking in their own right! I think they were termed "Imperial Atomic Space Navy Cruisers" or something along those lines. Definitely a creative and memorable design, and appropriately otherworldly. Judging by photos Patrick Read Johnson posted on FB a while back, he appears to have held onto at least one of them (along with a helmet, the SFX patrol ship, and an assortment of other pieces).

We have sent a bunch of stuff over to Orbital Surplus, and it's going on their ebay site.
Space hardware stuff (Apollo, Mercury, Shuttle)
Swords
Prop arrows from Last Samurai
Lots more to follow.

If you have items you are looking for, post them here, perhaps we have some spares or items we no longer need in the rental department.
Keep in mind, if it's a Hero piece, or an screen used item from a main stream film, it will likely show up at a Prop Store auction.

Hey, I heard along while back you guys made the Suits that Nicolas Cage wears in The Rock at the start of them film when they are defusing the baby bomb, if this is true do you happen to have anything from this? I would love to own something from this film!

Saw this on the Global Effects website, in their "rental" department, and it caught my eye.

If I'm not mistaken, this item (listed as "Remote 4") looks a lot like one of the early season Handlinks from "Quantum Leap".

I may be wrong, but that shape is pretty unmistakable.

You are close.....It was going to be a handlink for Quantum Leap. Back in the day, prototype electronics were not what they are today, and we were contacted by an Aerospace electronics firm, looking for other avenues for business and wondered if we needed very advanced "prototypes" for films.
An acquaintance of mine was a producer on the show and called me to make a new handlink, with more features (The one they had was a couple of pieces of acrylic with some blinking LED's powered by a watch battery)
This aerospace company designed a unit with "EPROM" programming that could display 2 lines of scrolling characters and a control a half dozen LED's in any number of sequences, all programable with a laptop. (This was in 1990!) And, in the same footprint as the original handlink prop.
The main producer was not impressed and thought it was "********" so we never completed it for the show, so it was never used (on the show). We still have it.

Funny timing in you asking about this, because just last week, I was on set, working on the reboot of Quantum Leap!

We did make those suits. But I'm pretty sure all of those items were sold or thrown out. But I'll keep an eye out.

That's so cool! Shame it never made it's way onto the screen. Can't wait to see what the reboot brings to the table! :)

Very cool, again I would love anything you could find from it so thanks for keeping an eye out!
Oh man, I had some perfect stuff for you. I bought this lot 9 years ago from Screen Used, but have since sold all of it.

That's amazing! I actually know someone who has some of these pieces, so I assume you sold the whole lot and someone broke them up and sold just parts of it I bet? but I wish you could have sold them to me first ha!
