Gender-Bent Hoth-Solo Costume for Doll Backpack

I started to post this earlier today, but I got too scared and just X'd out of the RPF tab.

I'm only scared because my budget is little to nothing and that reflects how accurate I am able to get.

Due to a screwy financial situation, I only get money when people gift it to me or want to buy stuff I've all ready made which only adds up to $10-$15 dollars every few...weeks or so. I was afraid to post here because I know this is Movie Replica Territory and the whole point of posting on this website is because I'm trying to recreate and EXACT REPLICA of a movie costume design. Weeeellll, since my budget is shot, I don't know, anymore, how willing I am to muster the utmost latter of attention to detail. Hopefully that fancy wording made sense, lol.

I will post progress pics as she gets better. I just don't know how much I'll get to pour my heart out into this and since I've been ecstatic about a personal project before and I've been very limited in funds to the point of putting the project on hold for several months, I tend to lose my enthusiasm. IF I don't keep a steady pace or I'm unable to. My inspiration drifts.

Anyways, about this doll.

Since this is a female version of Hon Solo, her name is Hana. She was going to be shaved and called a Hon, but I think I'll leave her hair attached. It kinda makes her unique in that sense. However, her costume will be the same, as close as I can.

Yesterday, I bought a rather good quality bunny rabbit stuffed animal at the thrift store, walked it home and-well...I um...cut off it's ears? Yeah,(Kill me with knives and pitchforks, now) and glued them to the edges of the coat. I worked on making it seamless so it looks natural. I tried to match the color of the fur to the parka fur from what I saw in the movie and references of Hon's coat. I think I did a dang-good job, if I do say so myself.

The doll is fitted with kids clothing. I tried to get a good base for adding on the details that will make this outfit look like it does in the movie on right down to the very colors.

I do know a lot about hand-sewing, at least, what I could figure out on my own since nobody is this hell-bent on making stuff like I do. For the jacket, it has buttons and I know Hon's jacket doesn't have buttons at all. For the sake of being true to the movie costume, can I rig the jacket with velcro, instead and get rid of the buttons, as well as hand-stitch the waffle-like pattern of warmth technology onto the jacket? It's tedious work, I know, but since this is just for fun at a comic-con, I don't know how intricate I'm getting. For the sake of posting it here, I don't want to waste your time, guys. You put so much passion into this, as I want to do the same. I get skeptical about my artistic drive with no cash at my disposal.

The boots, if you look closely, have little bows on them. I don't know how persnickety I'm going to get with fibers, but I'll probably cut up the rest of that poor bunny and use the fur to be covers on her boots and I'll cover up the bows. I might cut down the fur a bit too, but it's not that lengthy. Since Hana is a she, I could add my own spin on it, I think. It's the same look, just different materials. Fur. I don't know if that will fly here or not, but I'm on like, the strictest budget in the history of ever, so yeah, work with me on this, lol!

She needs goggles, belts, a gun holster, scarf, a hat bill for the goggles to oggle on top of, gloves that go up to her elbows just like Hon's, and I'll probably manufacture the strange tracking device he used to locate Luke out of foam and fleece or something.

GOGGLES will be made out of foam. (I found the perfect kid's size with a snorkle at the thrift store, but my gosh, they were rank with old smoke and it stunk the general five foot radius they rested in with the stench. No way in heck I was packing those into my house! Unfortunately, it was a tough loss. They could have been added onto to adapt their shape)(Part of shopping at the thrift store, sadly, especially with only 15 dollars in your pocket or less to work with)

HAT BILL will be made out of foam

IF I CANNOT FIND GLOVES that look very similar to Hon's in a kid size or version, I'll probably hand-sew them up somehow. It shouldn't be too complicated for Hana's little oven-mitts.

She will also be a functional backpack to hold a water bottle or my wallet with wire built into her legs to maintain a riding or mounted pose while she's on my back. Her arms might have some wire in them too. However, the backpack straps will be coming out of her oven-mitts for hands, so probably not.

THE PURPOSE OF THIS DOLL is for her to take her place upon my back as a Rebel Tauntaun Rider.

Yeah, that's right. I AM the tauntaun she will be riding. My name is SnowBunny. Yes, SnowBunny, the Tauntaun.

A Movie accurate saddle and Bridle will be manufactured for her to rein me around with and for her to perch her square little bunions in for a comfortable ride.

You cannot tell me that this isn't the cutest idea ever....

Due to my strict budget, I can only favor the doll as my prop for now.

My tauntaun is a fursuit I'm making. She's kinda not Movie replica profile to the Animitronic/doll tauntauns so unfortunately, as much time and energy as I've put into the tauntaun head I'm making, I don't think I can post it here as a main costume. I don't think it would make sense. All though, anymore, I'm weighing on the edge of making the suit more realistic to the movie so I can share on websites like this.

I also would like to be approved by the rebel legion, but that dream isn't possible with what I currently have. I all ready brought it to them and they said it won't fly. The tauntaun I have is like a baby. A real tauntaun or GIANT tauntaun, is the size of the costume that's been completed by one or two others on this website where they stand on stilts inside the tauntaun and it looks like they're riding it. That's movie accurate. Mine is just me dressed up as a tauntaun and I'm like...5'7 or so. It's a no go, sadly. I tried, though. I could be a baby tauntaun in training. I'm being broken.

I was going to make the suit pure white and the head as well because it's easy, but the movie tauntauns were a mixture of a faux fur that would be similar to a wolf's hide at it's basic two-toned coloration. I might add flesh-colored fleece to the face like the muzzle and the eyes and around the eyes, but the rest of the tauntaun will have two-toned wolf fur like in the movies. For the sake of the shape of my head, because shape and color DO matter to an extent, I don't know if my head shape would look good with two-toned gray fur.

I don't know yet, what do you guys think? What is MOVIE REPLICA? People make costumes based on Comic-book costumes and NOT movies and that's all right. Would I be okay by adding my own spin onto something as long as it was something that all ready existed? But then it wouldn't be MOVIE REPLICA anymore. Meh, I dunno. This sucks, lol. Am I over thinking this at all? I have a bad habit of getting my self in knots thanks to that.

Here's a video of the mask anyways. I'm so eager to post my progress and I could use your help!

SnowBunny the Tauntaun: The Head 8 - YouTube

I'm so excited for it! It's my first full body suit of fur I'm doing and I'm quite scared, actually. Scared I'll use up all my fabric I buy with screw ups and I won't be able to afford more since I've never done this before. I might buy more than I actually need to compensate for that possibility. Then I should be okay.

This is what I got done, just a few minutes ago, tonight.

Cut up this poor bunny and salvaged the fur. I'm too poor to even buy one yard of fur, which would have been plenty, so I was smart enough to find a big enough stuffed animal to cut up. Sadly, this bunny was quite a high-quality one. I thank him very much for his honorable sacrifice. His hide shall be put to get good use. He was a cute one, too. I might seal off his head and use him as a pillow. I wonder if that's a little bit...twisted? He has no body and no ears, for that matter. His head is so squishy and soft, though!

I adapted the fur to the tan boots. I caught myself before I glued the fur down to leave the zippers free so I could get the boots on and off if I needed. The white waffle pattern is just an old white t-shirt cut into strips. Yeah, I could have waited for better quality material, but this is merely a prop and I think people get the idea. I mean, shoot, I have freaking bunny fur on her boots! That's DEFINITELY not movie formal! No other animals live on Hoth, that I know of besides several species of Tauntauns and Wampas! She paid a pretty penny for her boots. Custom made. Yeah, we'll just say that. She decorated them with her own pattern because she ran out of funds to have the shoe-maker do it for her.

Hana is now pose-able with wire in her legs and her knees can bend, now to rest in a sitting or mounted position while she's riding on the back of her tauntaun, SnowBunny(Me).

Next up for Hana:

Scarf, Gloves, Goggles, Belt, Gun and Gunholster, Backpack Zipper and lining, Backpack Straps.

Comments and Critiques are appreciated! I'd really like to know what you guys think of this. I've decided, I'll take this easy, for now. It's only a prop, but with my budget, its an attempt to be as movie formal as possible.

PLEASE AND TANKIES!
