Gamers dying after multi day gaming marathons...

My favorite line from the article, "Activision had not returned requests for comment as of press time." Yes, wily Activision. Why did they let this happen?

So.. his mother only took the Xbox away after the four-day marathon? Gaming or not, it's not particularly healthy to stay locked up in one room for four days, period.

The parents will be getting investigated by protective services if they have more kids i bet. You know the media'll blame the game companies instead of the parents. These are the type of kids who make multiplayer a hell for average gamers by being rude and annoying and way too young to be playing half the games. I say let them die off if they and their families are so stupid.

To quote forrest gump "Stupid is as stupid does".

Still, a minor plays for 4 days and the parent(s) do nothing? 100% blame kid/parents, 0% game company. If they try and sue, the judge should just laugh them out of the building.

This is all I ever think of when I hear about stories like this...

So how long will it be before a total immersion video game like what we saw in Red Dwarf, where players are hooked up to IV bottles for nutrients and presumably have waste products removed in a similar fashion so they can play for years on end? All while living another life in the process.

If the kid had died, I would have chalked it up to Darwin in action.

In other news, I hear the Captain of that Jet Blue flight who had a psychotic episode on the plane did it because of sleep deprivation (and did it again in a prison mental facility). Hmmm, maybe he was also playing too many video games. ;)

I'm a serious gamer and I can't even fathom how these people play for so long. I think the longest gaming session I've ever done was 7 or 8 hours. Nowadays I play for 2 hours and I get bored and go do something else.

I don't feel bad for any of those people.

Watch the movie "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" - It's about the dance marathons they used to hold that are now illegal because people would die trying to win.

I hope the natural evolution of gaming will be something wereI have to wear full battle gear like a soldier and the only way to win is to be able to outrun and outsmart your opponent in a natural or virtual environment.

It'll be called reality...

I had a roommate ten years ago, who had to be hospitalized not once, but twice with blood clots in his legs from lying there like a slug in bed, playing video games for days.

I've done some all night gaming sessions, when playing in LAN with friends, but 4 days straight ? That's too much ! Plus I bet the kid used some energy beverages in quantities, which is extremely bad for your kidneys.
