G1 inspired RAVAGE !!

hi guys
well with optimus finished last year, and my batman arkham figure complete, it was now time to get my teeth into my next project, its still very early stages, but this has been in the works since mid jan, i plan to build a G1 inspired Ravage, that will transform!!
He'll be about the size of a meduim dog once transformed, and being as this is being bought up to date, and cassettes are no longer an option, he will transform to a briefcase, Ive always loved the fact the decepticons love to work with the humans, were as the autobots make friends with humans, the deceptions love to use humans to their advantage,so with this in mind, and after a lot of research, i went for the briefcase. As i can image a human, walking into a research lab, and placing the brief case down in the shadows, allowing ravage to transform and do what he does best, stealth and spying.
enclosed in the pics is the small g1 cassette that ive worked from, im also adding more movement, in the neck, and the legs, also (me being me) im making the mouth open and shut too, ive looked at pics of real panthers and the ligiments, and how the legs bend, so im hoping to replicate this in my build, anyway heres the pics, like i said, its still early stages, ive got car filler on order and more parts to build, but wanted to show you all now, where im at in this build.

Minds think alike. My son was just playing with my old Soundwave, Rumble and Ravage figures. I am shown him the amazing work everyone does. His first word sentence was " Dad, can you build me a rumble cassette" .

The Generation One items are so boxy and linear that this a great projects. my son and I will follow with great interest.

after you finish him you need to do a Soundwave in scale with Ravage. :)

lol, thanks ecmagee1984, yeah soundwave would be very cool!

Oh hell yes! Dude, you continue to amaze!

as always blownhemi, thanks for your support and kind words, glad to have you on board.

hehe pretty cool project !

thanks Gorgot3000, glad you like what im doing.

thanks james, well im a big g1 fan, and after the mamoth build of my 7ft optimus prime, i thought id tackle something a little smaller, but on the decepticon side, and i got a soft spot for ravage, so i thought, id give him a go. is still early stages, but the its getting there.

TILL ALL ARE ONE

You Sir...are full of WIN! Looking great. Can't wait to see this one completed, and who knows maybe a whole lineup of G1 Transformers! When I win the lottery, you'll be the second person I call to make some for me:lol:thumbsup:thumbsup

As always my friend, thanks for your support, yeah might tackle laserbeak next, but got loads to do on ravage first, lol!!! you know me, attention to detail etc.

anyway heres an update

well managed to get loads more done today, front legs, tail section and finish the jaw, im going to build this all first in wood, make sure eveything opens and shuts etc before i tidy up everything with car filler and styrene.
the tail section picture ive shown with a bit of wire, what i intend to do with this, is use the stalk from one of those bendy lamps, that way the tail can be put into different poses etc, then rolled up and tucked into the tail area,
Also bought a pack of metal bq skewers,i will cut of the tips, these will form ravages smaller teeth, and wind chime metal will be made into ravages bigger teeth.
heres the pics guys

hi guys

good day today, managed to tackle rear legs, wasnt to bad to work out, couple of quick poses and a quick fold up too, legs arnt attached yet as ive got to get some decent bolts, but the hard part is done, now its the long shift which willl consist of car filler, sanding, styrene etc etc etc

Now that...is an update! Looking GREAT!

thanks mate, its slowly getting there!!!! lol!!

hi guys
another update, spent the last few days tidying up the head, getting rid of all the imperfections etc, car filler to slope the edges, and bring out the detail, jaw has been giving his famous fangs, plus ive given him a few smaller teeth, to make him more meaner! teeth were made from kebab skewers for the smal teeth, and knitting needles for the bigger fangs, eyes are red live glow perspex that i also used on optimus's energon axe.
heres the pics guys

Nice... but I hope you don't have kids around. :rolleyes

lol!! yeah, make a great hole punch though!!

another update guys
styrene panels have been added, these give ravage more depth, also in his ears i used some offcuts from a sieve, again this gives ravage the illusion of speaker type ears, once this goes into paint i will dry brush silver to bring out all the small details.
all the best

continued great success..look forward to it completed.

thanks asemblyrequired, hoping to get this done, buy the summer.

Wow Colin, looking absolutely great! Can't wait to see the paint job...

cheers my friend, hes getting there slowly, but surely

an equally scaled and AWESOME Soundwave MUST be built!!!

lol, yeah your quite right zacic,

very very nice !

thank you Gorgot3000, thanks for the support

update guys

right styrene added to body, and extra detail added to add more depth to his body, sanded and all nicks and holes filled with car filler, and the body put into black primer, neck also has had styrene added too, now onto the head, eyes were drilled out, and the top of the head too, i then filled the top of the head with epoxy, once set this went like a glass block, eyes were then set in place, and panel replaced back, now i wanted to add a back light to ravages head to light up his eyes, this will be trial and error. All into black primer, this helps me get a feel of where im going, and with the panels rubbed back slightly it brings them out and ravage is taking shape,
oh quick couple of questions, should i go for a black decepticon logo with a chrome surround,or a purple logo??
and should i go for all black, including legs, or silver legs like the cartoon.
all the best

I tell you, this thread is one I hope to see bumped every time I visit the General Modelling section. Fantastic progress!

Personally, I'd go with the silver legs and purple logo, but that's just my G1 purist side talking. It would be even more awesome if you could somehow incorporate one of the heat sensitive logos, but I don't really see that happening. :lol
