Guys,

Its been a long time since i posted here, but lifes been moving fast.Got a new little one and a new life size Fett 90% complete:lol

Anyway,i was at my in laws the other day with the wife and kids and whilst having a little toilet break:) it suddenly dawned on me whilst washing my hands that the tap handles were AS flywheels. They look exactly like the ones on Obis saber, but im not 100% sure.I nearly crapped myself when i saw them, but i was in the right place so i felt ok:lol

Anyway,i questioned the wife and she said the taps were changed a few years back but her father used some old ones from a sink he got from a building job years before.I cant remember if it was A and S on the taps or H and C(im married into an italian family so wine is plentiful and memory gets hazy) but im going to take another look on sunday. What i need from you guys is a picture and description of exactly what was used for the prop.

Out of interest, what do they sell for? Im thinking of building a sabre for myself but i could be tempted to use them to trade for another piece of my Fett project. However, ive got to wrestle them from my Father in law yet,so lets hope he will understand!

Updates Sunday if i can get some info from you guys before then.

Cheers

Lee

P.S.ive looked at archived threads, but couldnt find pictures as some are from older threads.Saw Howards FOUND PART subject thread but again cannot get the pics up.

They will need to have the H and C on them to be the accurate old school ones.

Re: I think ive found two original AS Handwheels for Obi Wan saber!!!

UPDATE:

I have defiantely found 1 of the original handwheels. It is the hot one,and is in complete condition. The cold one is one of the latter ones with AS on top.

Could anyone please advise me of how much these are worth? Im not really a scratchbuild kind of guy,but i would love it to go to someone who is a completist.

Please PM me with any interest.

Re: I think ive found two original AS Handwheels for Obi Wan saber!!!

Great find! I wish you luck in stealing your father in laws sink knobs!

Re: FOUND!! one original AS Handwheel for Obi Wan saber!!!

Great find! These are really difficult to come by.

I do know Peacefrog was looking for one.
As for value, it depends on condition, if it can be taken apart and the middle cube section rotated.
If you're in a soft water area it should come apart farily easily. If you need advice taking it apart - pm me.

Re: FOUND!! one original AS Handwheel for Obi Wan saber!!!

I've seen this go for BIG money. I think if you've got the real deal in metal, you should have to problem getting a couple of hundred bucks for it, though I've seen them go for more. You also have to factor in the recession, though. Just take some pics, post them up and ask for offers. This will show just how much the market can bear.

Re: FOUND!! one original AS Handwheel for Obi Wan saber!!!

Average selling price was around $600 each for original screen accurate ones.

Re: FOUND!! one original AS Handwheel for Obi Wan saber!!!

Yeah, I passed up 2-3 from a few different RPF'ers in the $600-$650 range before I struck a deal for $425 from a friend who was basically covering his cost.

Re: FOUND!! one original AS Handwheel for Obi Wan saber!!!

Yep. Congratulations! Although the fact you're not going to use it yourself makes it kinda less fun. :p

It's more like: ooh you just found some money! Well done! ;)

Haha,i know Serafino.Considering i was half pissed i done pretty well, even when you think ive been using that loo at my in-laws for 3 years!- i never even noticed it before!

I think im going to offer it up soon, because i would love to have this go to someone else.Ive never been an accuracy nut,but i know many of you guys are.Its very time consuming to hunt the accurate parts down if you know what i mean, and thats time i dont have.

Thanks

Lee

Ah yes, more about the $$ rather than the part itself.

This hobby has seen better days.

Congrats on finding a worthless sink knob that somebody will pay hundreds of dollars for. We should all be so lucky.

Whatever the market will bear. If he gets top $$$ for it, then more power to him, I say.

***** ****** man...i didnt know the bloody value of the thing at first. My first instinct was thinking id made a great and lucky discovery.I had read before that it was rare, but i didnt think of any value.I actually thought of forums like this at first, but it seems pointless me thinking that with people like you assuming that im out for a quick buck.A majority of people here have congragulated me but there are some who seem to be jealous,or even insinuate i am less of a prop collector than the next.

fyi,i could never afford all the other original prop parts to build a screen accurate obi wan,and even if i was financially capable i wouldnt do so.To me that extra few bucks i can get for this will help further my collection.Im sorry if you find that wrong, but i dont feel guilty.I was even thinking of casting them up but because i dont know how to,i wont.Would i be more in the money then? if i were to do so and charge $20-$30 per casting?

People such as you really annoy me.You dont know me,so dont judge me.

For the time being im removing it for sale, more because im peeved off with people such as you.

Because God help you if you dont share the same preconcieved notions as everyone else and conform to Javamonkey's perspective on the hobby. :rolleyes We all know what he should have done is ignore his feelings about this prop he found, and do what all the 'purists' think he should do. He wouldn't want to offend anyone or actaully form his own opinion about what to do with it, afterall turning over any type of profit must break one of the 10 prop commandments.

I really can't see your problem with him selling this part to someone who truely desires it. Your just complaining for the sake of complaining, and by the way you contradicted yourself by saying 'worthless' and then adding 'someone will pay hundreds of dollars for'. :thumbsup

Uh, yeah, that's pretty much what an economy is.

I have a shiny rock, you have glass beads. I give you shiny rock for glass beads, you trade shiny rock for chicken. Chicken make eggs so you eat.

You just sound bitter.
