First post, Greetings all, and info about upcoming ST mods and props being undertaken

Just wanted to kick off my new registration by saying hello.
A lot of you I know by reputation already, gmros etc.
Big fan of what some of you have done, and has motivated me to get more into my prop collecting and modiying.

I'm lucky that I have a good job, so there's always money around to buy new props and electronics.
I'm just starting to get into resin casting, and I intend to make resin cast TNG Tricorder shells that will be cast off the Playmates ones, so I can make unlimited batches of them, and they will come pre-prepared for gmros' upgrade.
I also have just purchased a Type 3b Phaser Rifle which I intend to make a mothermold for so I can produce more rifles to sell (which I will sell cheaper than the other guys on ebay who are ripping you off)
Also wanting to make resin shell castings of some of my more rare props, so these can be made available to the general public.
I've also just ordered gmros' upgrade through jeff, and have gone through about 4 playmates tricorders myself trying to upgrade them, with no luck, so I bought a clean new playmates tng tricorder and have left it untouched until gmros' kit arrives and I can get started.
Also will be fitting electronics into the phaser 3.
I'll be modding my TOS phaser to accept an overpowered blue ray laser, which I'm quite looking forward to.

So that's basically what I'm doing, check out my youtube channel, I'll put more videos as I get the chance.

I'm currently living in Perth Western Australia, but I'm moving to Edmonton Alberta in a few short weeks. Looking forward to meeting new trek fans up there.

Hope to make new friends here, and get help, advice as well as share mine with you all.

***EDITED 16/04***

Just wanted to clarify, the props I'd be recasting would be scratch built by me, or replica resins I have aquired. I would not be making mothermolds of props other people have spent a long time working on. They will be the result of my hard work, or someone else molding someone elses mold from someone elses mold, if you get my drift. I'm sorry I didn't clarify.
Nor am I advertising my intention to sell various bits I'll be working on.
Just wanted to say hi and let you know what I like to do, what I'm interested in learning to do.
I tried to create my first post that detailed who I am and what I do, not a OMGZ FIRST POST I LOVE YOU GUYZZZZ!!!1
Sorry for the controversy, but it wasn't intended. I just want to learn resin casting, I would never rip anyone off or make money from someone elses hard work, but if someone has just made a mold of someone elses mold etc etc then that's ok, as it's no-ones hard work other then the work it'll take me to make a mold. I hope this clears things up. Sorry guys.

That's quite the first post! It sounds like you are jumping in with both feet into this hobby and you certainly sound ambitious. Good for you.
Welcome.

Re: First post, Greetings all, and info about upcoming ST mods and props being undert

Re: First post, Greetings all, and info about upcoming ST mods and props being undert

Welcome. Always nice to meet another Trekkie! :)

Re: First post, Greetings all, and info about upcoming ST mods and props being undert

Welcome, but definitely a no-no to recast. We do not support that here.

Welcome, sound like you are jumping right in. You might want to reconsider recasting other peoples work though.

That LCARS is awesome!!!

Good video, I like the interface. Did you make all those animations etc yourself?

You mean he should recast Stargate stuff instead of trek stuff???? :lol While I'm always happy to have another enthusiastic trek collector enter the fold, I'm a little surprised by the wealth of support for a new member who boldly announces his intention to recast a number of items.

But then, hey, if people want them badly enough, it's ok. right???

No, I downloaded them from various websites. I do have a few animations I've made myself, but didn't have time in my youtube video to demo them.
Just wanted to give a basic rundown of my touchscreen and voice activation with LCARS.
Also, did you notice the uniform in the reflection of the monitor?

Welcome, but as mentioned, you may want to verify that the pieces you are stating that you will make copies of and sell for cheaper than the people ripping everyone off on Ebay are ones you are authorized to reproduce and have permission to do so.

Just dont want to see you get started off on the wrong foot here is all.
Hope you do well and good luck!

Yeah, I'll definately do that.
I've just shot a message off to the guy I bought the phaser rifle from.
I'm sure it'll be fine, but yeah, definately worth checking, and something I wouldnt have thought of if it weren't for the rpf. Thanks!

Re: First post, Greetings all, and info about upcoming ST mods and props being undert

I've been reading other threads regarding "recasting" and "recasters"
I feel I should retract my statement saying I will sell resin props that I've made molds for on ebay. It seems that's going to be a no no.
I really want to use mold and resin for making my own props. That's the aspect of resin casting I want to learn. Obviously the best way for me to practise making silicon molds is using resin props I already have, but yeah I'm not going to sell them, thanks for the education on recasting, I'll avoid it at all costs.

Re: First post, Greetings all, and info about upcoming ST mods and props being undert

I would be very interested to see how you tackle the Playmates as it so darn hard (and expensive) to get them anymore. This is because the key to the electronics I am developing lies in the hinges.

I am well aware of who you are.
I've done several successful and non successful upgrades to my stock pm tricorder, and I am very impressed with your copper hinge eyelet design to provide power to the EMRG and ID lights on the bottom plate.
When I go about actually upgrading the playmates tricorder, I will post a full how-to with tips and tricks on my youtube account.
I'll also show you the tricorders i've upgraded with a working LCD screen.
I'm also interested in how you've done the electronics for your phaser rifle, as I'm wanting to install electronics in mine, I'd be interested to hear any insight you have about it.
Cheers

Re: First post, Greetings all, and info about upcoming ST mods and props being undert

Wow. I am stumped. I never thought anyone would read my blog and my website. Thanks. (Just found out I forgot to put the links and my signature after all these years :lol)

Anyway, about the hinge, it was the only logical path and PM is the only hinge that works because once I finish the current project, I might go back to develop the idea further. Alas, that Tricorder is lost, because I stupidly agreed to lent it to someone at an event and since he does not value things like that, someone else took it while he lent it to somebody else. The replacement JJ tricorder did not appease me completely. I think I should have asked him for an eFX instead.:love

Anyway, what you saw from the Website are all ideas and most of them never reached full completion. But thanks to the new job I got to months ago, I can now pay off my Credit card debts and still have a bit for electronics R&D. The Phase Rifle (OK, I will update the site over this weekend) electronics is done. All I need to do now is to develop the sound chip/circuit for it. But the double trigger feature is now off the design as its too expensive to make.

Re: First post, Greetings all, and info about upcoming ST mods and props being undert

I'm a newbie too actually just started collecting figures since sept/09 at that very month I already own my first Jason X (neca) props at that month from then on I slowly start collecting and hunting some of the wanted props and were happen to found this site about last 2 weeks ago hence keep on doing a research and learning all the way.. There's so much wishlist props still that I wanna get to display along haha..

Anyway it's really nice to be here knowing there's a groups of ppl whom share a common interest, one and all nothing but only about "PROP REPLICA" !!!
