Built two of these simultaneously - second one gets finished tonight! Then I can go back in time and tell myself to charge the clients more - these were rough going.

Wow! :eek

Crisp, clean, and beautiful!

VERY nice work, Jason. :thumbsup

So... what proved to be the roughest going when you were completing these?

The incredibly crappy castings. The fact that I had to rebuild EVERYTHING... it was demoralizing and a chore. And I had to do it twice, and all 8 railing parts (2 each for each kit, plus 2 each for each electronics upgrade kit) were crap... so I don't think a couple bum parts "slipped through the cracks".

Stay far away from this kit if you are not a resin kit builder expert, seriously. Read up on the build:

Moffeaton,

You really do great work!!! your very meticulous and it shows enormously in your craftmanship, this must have been very time consuming, both your Escape pod and the time machine are museum quality pieces.

Absolutely STUNNING work on those,
make sure you CHARGE appropriately for your time..

:love

Oh, and P L E A S E, you know as well as I
do you got the ONLY two BAD ones out there
and NOTHING " slipped " through.

JK, seriously beautiful stuff ! :thumbsup

Thank you, sir!

I try to raise the bar every time I build something... it's exhausting ;)

Fantastic work!!

If I might make a recommendation:

If you look at the original and then look at the one on the right, you'll feel your eyes "relax" - helps bring out the model more...

Again, great job; I've always loved this design...

Very nice tweak! I think I might get that for my next sweep color. Or maybe a 40% cool grey... thank you for the color mod!

I love the build diary. That's a crazy amount of work!

The motor video wasn't loading. Can you re-post that here? I'd love to see it in action!

:)

Thanks guys!

Mic, it's the masterpiecemodels kit. If you buy it, I recommend a stiff drink before opening the box, unless they have run new molds since I got both of my kits in June.

I am surprised for the price of that kit that the castings aren't cleaner. Do you have any pics of the parts before you got started?

ausgezeignet!! Excellent work:thumbsup
The best build up of the kit I've seen. Great attention to the details.

The current parts are better since new molds were made and the base is now one piece, no more cutting styrene sheets. This is the first kit that Masterpiece made and they obviouly had quite a learning curve.

Due to Alps pulling all support for their printers I will no longer be producing the decal sheets for the Masterpiece kit. They have gotten new ones made which I haven't seen yet, apparently the decals are now individual and no longer require careful trimming.

Once again great job!

That is so awesome! Great Job!!!(y)thumbsup:thumbsup

I have to do this model now!

I'm looking at the kits, and it shows the model kit and then the upgrade kit.
Is the upgrade kit just the motor and lights, or is it the kit and the motor and lights?
Just wanting to know because of the price...:eek

Man, it figures. The parts on the two kits I got were BAD, across the board - the upgrade kits were new rails, clear resin parts where applicable, all electronics, and updated instructions. It was worth the price, if the parts were good. It's nice to hear they're good, now.

I'd love to see these new parts - have they released pics of them? ALL EIGHT rails that I received were terrible, and I can't imagine that was just a case of "they slipped by our QC", which I admit happens to the best of them.

Did they fix the chair too? It was mastered incorrectly!! I had to cut two of the legs apart to fix.

I'd heartily recommend the kit to someone if the parts are indeed better. But I don't ever want to build something that rough again. Don, I'd like to build one more, for myself - is there any way I can see the new parts before buying? I feel like an ass for disparaging the kit, but I also don't want to misrepresent the sheer amount of cleanup work that I had to do, just to get parts to the "advertised condition" I saw in the product photos.

Thank you!
Jason
