So I decited to start this today after I went through all the material I have, I've come up with a build plan, but this thread might be slow because im hopefully starting a new job soon. The first pics are of the kit as I received it and then I'll go from there, any tips or info anybody wanted tocontribute would be great!

Here is the work that got done today, not that much, started slow, basicaly just started on one of the side panels, a quick run through with some bondo, drilling holes and some reshaping and cleaning up lines, I plan on using clear/red LED's for the lights on the side, but has some red square one's laying around so I test fitted the holes, look pretty good so far, after the bondo I sprayed it down with some filler primer, best stuff in the world!

Re: MIB J2 Project-WIP Build Thread

Looking good so far. I haven't even started on mine yet except for some very preliminary prep. Were you able to get the knob off the side?

Re: MIB J2 Project-WIP Build Thread

Thanks you guys! I hope to keep it fun and updated! I think I could have gotten the knob off the side, it seemed to me that it was cast kinda open on the inside, and maybe a small micro cutting piece for my dremel couldhave cut it out without damage to both pieces, but i've decided to leave it static and just run all the LED's off the switch that gonna be on the back.

Re: MIB J2 Project-WIP Build Thread

IMPRESSIVE. I am not a MIB fan but this is the gun I think is the best of the group, other than the tri-barrel!

Re: MIB J2 Project-WIP Build Thread

Sweet, look foreward to seeing your progress. Still wanna get a J2 and a Flashy Thingy (can't spell neuralizer :p) sometime myself.

Re: MIB J2 Project-WIP Build Thread

Are you planning to drill holes in the nozzle for the green LEDs? That's the one obstacle preventing me from finishing mine.

Re: MIB J2 Project-WIP Build Thread

Yea, I plann on drulling them out, will most likely be one of the lat parts of the build, but shouldent be that hard

Re: MIB J2 Project-WIP Build Thread

Ok, new update 9/22:
I did alittle more work on the piece today, I ran out of bondo and was too lazy to go pick some up so I worked on the fornt barrel. I drilled the holes out for the LED's, each hole varies in size because the teardrops do, pretty easy.

Next I test fitted some extra LED's I had laying around, all fit perfect. when I do start putting the elctronics togetehr im going to use very bright green LED's so they illuminate the entire opening, also on the finished piece the teardrop holes will be black.

So here is where I stand, not that much of a update but I thought i'd share, the pieces that are primered right now in the pics are pretty well done, but I will go over them again with bondo and primer before I do the final paint job just to make sure I got everything.

:lol LOL!!!!!!

Uh, no.

Re: MIB J2 Project-WIP Build Thread UPDATE 9/22 PG.1

Looks good, but where's the bottom of the clip? And the piece that the scope sits on? I think I might see it in the second pic, but I've never seen one of these disassembled so I couldn't tell for sure.

Re: MIB J2 Project-WIP Build Thread UPDATE 9/22 PG.1

Thanks!!! The piece the scope sits on is there, its white, I dont think it showed up in many pics, as for the bottom of the clip it dident come with the kit :( so im going to have to fabricate that part, but I have exact measurments so it shouldent be that hard (hopefully)

Re: MIB J2 Project-WIP Build Thread UPDATE 9/22 PG.1

Ok, UPDATE 10/1: I spent 6 hours today on just the body, there was alot more work to do than I thought just to get it right, but the entire body is sanded, and primed and awaiting a final coat of paint and seal, after that i'll work up the electronics and build the but plate, I have the LED's on order and have to pick up some hex nuts and a metal tude for the top, coming along faster than I though.

In the pics the seam lines are alot closer together, I used acouple spots of hot glue to hold her together for picture purposes.

Re: MIB J2 Project-WIP Build Thread UPDATE 10/1 PG.2

I'm going to start the final paint job today, i'm going with a allum. but not sure what kinda seal to use, flat, gloss or satin, any input?

Re: MIB J2 Project-WIP Build Thread UPDATE 10/1 PG.2

Whew, good luck with that. Whenever I've seen a seal put over metal paint it always ruins the luster. You might want to try Plasti-coat Silver. It has a great aluminum look and is pretty good with handling.

Re: MIB J2 Project-WIP Build Thread UPDATE 10/1 PG.2

Thanks Rusty, I was thinking the same thing, I think i'll go without the seal, I have a great allum paint, it doesent come off as metalic like as most

Re: MIB J2 Project-WIP Build Thread UPDATE 10/1 PG.2

I was talking to a guy I used to work with who was telling me of a paint that you spray on, and then spray an aluminum powder on and polish it. It gives a very close to chrome like finish. The only issue is it was susceptible to oil from your hands and would stain the finish if handled to much. He told me the name but my memory isn't what it used to be. He can paint cars so I plan on letting him do my J2 when it gets to that point. I'm actually trying to talk him into figuring out a way to give a chrome finish to resin, and that I could supply him with a lot of business if he can do it. ;)

Re: MIB J2 Project-WIP Build Thread UPDATE 10/1 PG.2

Very cool, let em know the name if you think of it, I was thinking of doing a alclad finish but wheever I use it it never comes out the way I want, very tricky stuff
