well i checked out the first layer i did last night and it seems to have dried fine, so i think i solved the problems i was having with the silicone, so now i just need to build it up a bit and make a rough mothermold to hold the shape.

the "waste" mold came out good, got more detail than i would have with plaster, so time to get a hardcopy and start cleaning that up. Im just so relieved to finally get this thing past a fragile clay sculpt, and I even managed not to entirely damage the sculpt either!

looking good.

little tip. if you can , make a few copies. that way if you are struggling to clean up a crevice or a part you cant really get to, you can cut it off completly, clear the area and you can cut out the other piece from one of the others helmets and re attach it seamlessley.

have no idea if that made any sense but hope it helps

that makes alot of sense, thanks! Yeah i plan on casting a few up as backups, never know what will happen.im just so glad it worked, last time when i did my FF1 mask i did the waste mold in ultracal and plaster and lost virtually all of the fineline details and rivets and the like, really upsetting, but this got it all.

i did a quick thin casting just to clean the clay and stuff out of the mold, but i couldnt resist doing this before tossing it aside :D It fits good.

finally got off my a$$ and did some more work on this. While cutting out the motuh area I accidently ground the lips down a bit, so i need to fix that, but ive smoothed it out a bit. Obviously still alot of work to do cleaning this up, but getting there slowly...

did a bit more work this weekend, hopefully ill have this finished by the end of the week, maybe some better shots tonight.

It seems like Michael Madsen's been at your mask. Where is that ear going to go?

there are ears on each side of the mask, you can see it in a shot where he puts his mask on.

UPDATE! Just need to attach the other ear, clean up around the mouth a bit, prime and smooth some areas out, and its good to mold!

thanks guys :) Once i get this finished up I should be able to pump a few out, then get to work on stuff Ive been putting on hold for over a year :p
