Fear The Walking Dead (spin off series)

True, but Rick & co. aren't exactly walking around with old military surplus, the Governor had a freaking full auto Stery Aug, that's hardly a Vietnam take home. There's also the restriction on full autos that's in place, outside of dealers and ranges regular people can't buy full autos made after 1986(?), that's why fully automatic guns are really expensive and hard to come by,

There's gangs running around who have RPGs and .50 cal machine guns. So there must be a large amount of illegal guns in the U.S. that would certainly filter out in a situation like TWD. Not to mention there are gunsmiths who have licenses to build new full auto rifles for military or law enforcement. If you knew where to look you could probably get them. Presuming their former owners and dead and not guarding them. :lol

I may watch a couple more shows, but they're not doing anything to make us like any of these characters so far.

WD guns are kind of hilarious in a real world setting. Everyone has a distinct gun vs generic type real world in the field use, same caliber and magazine... Its for artistic merit not reality. There are good guy and bad guy weapons which is a very basic formula. The AK is a bad guy weapon, M4 good guys, basic pistols are good guys, anything custom or exotic is a bad guy... Thats why Rick using an AK comes in as a visual que to his turn from candy striped do gooder to sour grapes do what has to be done anti hero.

In regards to gangs running around with military grade weapons, corpses, even animated ones, would be easy to steal from. On a side note in another real world setting, when the LA riots happened and the National Guard was brought in, they were issued mags full of blanks, and one live round for rifles. Pistols were armed although ive since been told one live round was in the chamber for self defense. Live full mags were issued for pistols but as stated not to be loaded. The fear was NG would be over run or picked off/separated and crowd crazed civis would then have military weapons. I dont believe its ever publicly been admitted but many NG crews teamed up with local LEO's for obvious reasons. There were similar happenings post 9/11 where local LEO's and civilians did arms counts. I still vividly recall arming half my street and handing out ammo. We had a Sheriff sub station at the time and not a dedicated city police force. We got one patrol car passing by asking how everyone was doing and checking to see chaos wasnt erupting. Even our local firemen had arms inside the vehicles. This was reality although now it reads like fiction.

Ok, so I watched episode 2 and 3 with the lowest possible expactations. I kinda liked them, the pacing was a lot better, and the walkers on beaches and in water works well.

This one was one of the worst, especially the beach scene. The dad (again no idea what the names are) on the beach started shooting at walkers that were about 100yds. away. Then they did a slow freaking motion move back to the beach. You know, no hurry right? Then they took forever to get the boat (after the girl and her brother hugged it out, again no hurry) back into the water. Does this show have completely different writers than TWD? Wait, correct that, do they have the same bad writers TWD used (stupidity wise) in the last season?

He was using a satellite phone.

I caught that part while flipping channels and was shocked then i realized it wasn't a normal phone. At least they didn't magically have tech working with nobody running it. Though he better not get too comfy with that phone as anything can happen to a satellite.

I didn't catch that, it looked like a small phone to me. I guess, like everything else, they're making them more compact.

I noticed that there were only two people in the lifeboat. Did the woman murder the other guy too?

David.

He was what was stuck in the intake underwater. I Hope to see Alex (boatgirl) again, she's tough.

Strand must have some future plans for these people because I simply cannot discern why he hasn't dumped them somewhere yet, especially the mother.

Ill chime in with some positive notes* vs the usual crapfest,

Odds are the boat captain is keeping the others along for the ride as payment to enter the "compound" thats been mentioned. He brings healthy subjects for bio testing, he enters the safety of the compound. Its the most obvious way for things to go and this show doesnt seem to doing anything creative.

*mostly positive.

Not to mention that in a pinch he's got a boat load of walking rations.

That's kind of my take as well. Strand (hey I remembered one name! :lol) was talking to Druggie while they were in jail and he said something about prostituting women or something. I think he intends to do exactly that when he gets to where he's going.

The mom seems to have really taken a step backwards in her character development. She had really "stepped up" by the end of last season and was seeing through a lot of her husband's BS even. From the start of season 2, it's like she reverted back to the first few episodes of season 1. I've been waiting for her to turn into "Barbara" from NOLD, not go backwards...

I barely got through season one and I never looked back, I found I was watching it out of habit and not so much out of any real interest. The same will happen with the Walking Dead if the writers don't step it up for this new season.

I'm with my folks. Things have gotten pretty interesting. The place Madison, Strand, Travis and Alicia are at now kinda reminds me of the game Dead Island.
