Fantastic Four First Steps Marvel Studios MCU

If Julia Garner is going to be the Silver Surfer they should just make her 'Silver Ruth from Ozark'.
I don't know that I could ever enjoy watching her unless she is cussing a mile-a-minute.

I get confused between Julia and Justin Timberlake…

Dunno if this has been touched on earlier, but one thing I was thinking about was that perhaps the retro-future 60s/Jetsons look of the setting is less about an alternate reality/timeline/multiversal thing, and more about some kind of elaborate mind-****. Like, most of it isn't real, or they're hooked in to some virtual reality environment and don't realize they're "inside the Matrix" or whatever, or it's some form of sorcery courtesy of one Victor von Doom (who has always mixed magic with science/tech).

Also loving that Galactus looks like Galactus and not like a cloud.

I've never followed the FF in the comics, and I know almost nothing about Galactus except that he has herald(s) that go before him to prepare planets for his consumption. Does Galactus change "size" in the Marvel Universe?

Sometimes these Space Giant bad guys are horrible with consistent scale. In the Trailer, Galactus' shadow makes it looks like he's skyscraper size. Or Transformers Unicron, who should be thousands of miles in height, in order to consume/"eat" a planet.

Yes, he can alter his size.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Galactus can alter his size, but more importantly, the artists alter his size as-needed.

But I could also see where inconsistencies in the visuals are actually the result of some weird program in which they're trapped.

I was done with Marvel movies, bored with the multiverse already. Then…then THIS trailer dropped! FF is my favorite hero team and I’m LOVING the 60s futuristic aesthetic.

I’m guessing though that this is a movie set ‘not in the current Marvel universe’ and they’ll be sucked into it at the end.

Which will explain why they haven’t been around saving us yet.

But this looks to be holding to the original comics and I love it. Ben looks great in the suit, I don’t need him bare chested in the movie.

As far as trailers go, was it really that great? I agree the 60's future aesthetic is nice and the F4 uniforms looked good (although Reed Richards should NOT have facial hair). I thought the trailer could have been a lot better in terms of introducing the heroes, the world, the tone, and the premise of the film. Sure, there have been 3 F4 movies already so I see where it might seem redundant to have a proper "introduction" trailer but, those types of trailers just work better. This one is all over the place (the kitchen scene was an odd choice to spend so much time on). It's not to pick on F4 as most modern trailers have this problem. On that note, I was thinking it would have been cool to ride that 60's sensibility and make the trailer like one you would've seen during that time complete with a narrator. If Stan Lee was still alive, I would have had him do it.

I think the kitchen scene was supposed to try to show the lighter nature of the characters to try to connect with audiences. Plus, Ben Grimm is played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach who's best known for his role in the popular series The Bear, which is set in a restaurant, so they may be trying to play off of that. I still would've like a gruffer sounding Thing, though.

I agree that the trailer doesn't do a lot, though I think the fact that the imagery is so different than the other MCU films that they may have just wanted to introduce the esthetic before introducing the characters and their backstories, since that's what most people would notice and talk about.

Appreciate the response. Everybody here seems to be non-responsive lately. Maybe it's me

There's this kind of, not even sure how to describe it, overwritten/sticommy "gossip girl" dialogue that's plagued shows & movies (and the MCU) for over a decade now. Ben's dialogue reminded me of it. I don't know, from the comics I've read and watching the 90's cartoon, that was never a part of his persona. Just feels like more of this bad trend of the MCU homogenizing every character into what's popular in modern culture (or popular in other MCU movies), or perhaps more specifically, what the writers/studios find entertaining/popular in other media and capitalizing on that rather than what's authentic to the character. You mention The Bear. I think you're right in that they may be connecting to it but that's my issue. It shouldn't play off of that at all as it doesn't fit the character.

This is just the first trailer, there will be another, likely after the Thunderbolts* has released.
Also bear in mind no film wants to give too much away in a trailer.
I don't know what more they could do to address your concerns, I thought this trailer perfectly established all of the these things, all without giving away too many spoilers.
They teased Galactus without giving away too much, the only thing we haven't seen yet is the Silver Surfer, likely because the VERY vocal section of the Internet, I wouldn't even call a fan base, that loves to trash anything straying even a follicle away from the comics will get their a*se in their hands and whip up a hate storm online.

The trailer has been pretty much positively received which I think is a great start for the marketing campaign for what is already facing and uphill battle against as you also mentioned 3 previously failed attempts to bring the Fantastic Four to the big screen in a satisfying way.

Appreciate the response, thank you (y). Well, I guess the best way I could put it is if you replaced the F4 with any other superhero team and didn't use the 60's aesthetic, the trailer still works in a generic way. Compare that with something like the Batman 2022 trailer where it is most definitely a Batman trailer. Everything about Batman is conveyed in that trailer. Granted you're right of course in that they can't give too much away but I didn't really get much sense of who the characters are and when I did it felt contradictory. For example, we see Thing in his trademark fedora and trench coat struggling with his appearance which is good but it's juxtaposed with him seemingly fairly happy cooking. Maybe that's what they're going for in that there is where he is happy. Tonally, I didn't know what to make of it. Again, I do understand the redundancy of showing a more academic trailer when everybody has already heard of the F4. Maybe I'm wrong here. I know I'm definitely in the minority haha. I'll say the Galactus tease was very much needed after the last debacle. I can't fault them for that. But I would've given him a little build up before his tease. Either way, I'm sure this will be way better than the previous F4 movies.

By the way, somewhat off topic. The trailer is officially called a teaser but teasers are usually very short and show very little. This is definitely a trailer and it's okay to call it that.
