Limited Run Episode VII Stormtrooper

I'm going ahead and opening up my Ep VII Stormtrooper helmet up for orders. I'm booked pretty heavily with some rather large sculpts, so I will have to limit how many of these I can do.

(Updated pics)

New pics of the revised helmet with the larger lenses and more accurate latch kit are coming soon.

Sample kit: 1 urethane cast helmet and 2 vacuum formed acrylic lenses.

A lip is molded in for your convenience and the only flash to clean up are on the inside edge. (note: this particular helmet has a casting error under the chin but most probably won't have this.)

Mic Tip and Cheek panel kit.

The kit now includes the larger, more accurate lenses and the more accurate, recessed latch kit.

All helmets will include vacuum formed lenses.

Note: The sculpt was intentionally designed to be upgraded with new parts as they are revealed. Certain detail parts like the temple "buckles" and the square shapes on top will be offered as add-ons to the existing helmet.

To order please post here and PM me with your details, ie: full name, email and shipping addresses, and whether you want a finished helmet or kit. When you pay your invoice, please include a note with your RPF name so I know who's account to credit.

After verifying your order your will receive a Paypal invoice (same thing you get from Ebay). If you wish to use another form of payment, please let me know. And as usual I will be offering layaway payments for anyone that would like them.

Layaway:
Once you place your order via PM and tell me you want to start layaway, I will PM you back with my Paypal address. You then place a minimum deposit of $25, and then make payments when is convenient for you. The only rules are that I ask that you keep your payments above $25 and that you PM me each time you pay so that we have a redundant record to follow. Finally, when you are paid up in full I will send you your final invoice for shipping and handling and off it goes.

That's it. I don't charge interest or late fees of any kind and I don't penalize you for any reason. If you need to suspend payments for a month or two because real life gets in the way, I don't care one bit and your item will still be waiting for you when you get things sorted out. This is a hobby and I want to keep it fun and easy for both of us.

Finished: $420 +sh
Kit: $200 +sh

I've commandeered this post for the Latch kit tutorial.

1. Using a strip of tape, lay out a line across the top of the helmets from the front of one side latch to the other. This will be the front edge that all four alcoves will be aligned to.

2. Starting from the bottom of the side latch, measure up 4 inches. This will be the top of the upper latch.

3. Pay special attention to the difference in size between the original latch and the new ones. Add the extra length to the end.

4. Using a Dremel tool, cut out the hole for the new alcoves. Notice the length from the bottom of one latch to the top of the other.

5. You plug should sit comfortably within the hole so that it doesn't wiggle around excessively but will fall out if tilted.

6. Coat the plug along the face and sides with petroleum jelly and hold it in place with a strip of tape. I recommend a good, strong duct tape so it won't move on you. The cheap masking tape in the photo is just for illustration purposes.

7. From the inside it should look like this.

8. Mix up a small batch of Bondo or similar filler and smear over the plug, paying special attention to tapping it down so it seeps into the cracks. I found that wearing rubber gloves and smearing it on with a finger worked particularly well.

9. Sand off any spillage that seeps up around the outside and your alcove is complete.

10. Finally you can glue in your latch and it's done.

I've experimented with several different ways of doing this and found it works well with Bondo, resin, and epoxy. For resin and epoxy though, you will need to coat the plug with PVA and seal the edges with clay.

Any questions about the latch kits will be answered here.

Looks great! I wish we had a good shot of the mic tip area. Do you have plans to do the top dome details? I know you can't see them very well but you can get at least the right size and general shape. They look like they could even be the same as the side details.

I've hijacked this post for the Mic tip install tutorial.

Step 1: Mark the back edge of you hole by measuring 3/4 of an inch from the tip of the side stripe.

Step 2: Using the insert as a template, place one end on the mark you just made and draw around it.

You should wind up with something like this.

Step 3: Now draw a slightly smaller oval inside of the one you just made and cut out the inside area.

Starting with a much smaller hole will help to keep you from overshooting and taking away more material than you need. Continue to widen the hole slightly until your insert fits well.

Keep in mind that the back end of the hole will need to be beveled to allow room for the insert.

A small note: The front and back flanges of the insert (or east and west on the oval opening) should rest squarely on the helmet, but the top and bottom flanges (North and south) will be floating a bit above surface. This is normal.

Glue the insert in place and then grind off the flange and excess so that it is a smooth alcove.

For the finished helmets, I tacked the inserts in with superglue and then back filled area with more resin to secure them in. Epoxy putty also works well for this method if you prefer. And if you are going to resin them in, be sure to seal around the edge of the insert with some clay or putty to prevent leaking.

Is this helmet wearable ? What I am asking is, the finished version has lenses to look through ?

Oh yeaaahh. Can I still get in on this run? I would like a kit version please. Thanks! They look incredible!!!

You know that teaser just boosted sales. I want one too.
