Eight Men Out/Chicago Black Sox baseball uniform

Nope...not yet. I've toyed with having one made, or making it myself, but have not had much luck finding a period-looking pinstripe wool blend.

I'm resurrecting this thread to see if anyone has any resources for making my own uniform. Any information on patterns, fabric, etc would be appreciated. Thanks!

Believe it or not, I'm still interested, too...life being what it is, I've had other priorities to attend to since 2013, but I'm still interested in finding info on this uniform.

I thought about contacting the Ghost Players to see if they would share some info on their uniforms, but haven't gotten around to it.

I've contacted Ghostplayer.us but their uniforms were made by someone else and the person who responded didn't know who made them. The search goes on.

This is becoming harder than I expected. I can't even find suitable fabric in any material, let alone period-accurate flannel. I thought it would be simple to get the fabric. Is it feasible to order custom fabric?

It's feasible, but costly to have a "run" of custom weave...it usually has to be ordered in bulk, to offset the initial cost.

Have you tried Ebbets Field Flannels? They don't have the Black Sox jersey but they do do custom work. There stuff is expensive but really high quality, at least it was when I had a few of there jerseys in the early 90's.

I get their catalogs, but I didn't know they did custom work; that might be an option, but as you said, they are a bit costly.

Yeah, they're really pricey; $225 + S&H just for the jersey. I tried contacting them to see if they'd share where they get their material and they would not.

That's just plain crazy, especially for the jersey of an obsolete team, lol.

I understand the price--hand crafting things cost money--but it would be nice if they shared their fabric supplier. I guess they're afraid of competition.

Obsolete team? That's all they make are jerseys for teams that don't exist anymore. 225 is expensive yes, but not considering the quality of their work and it's custom. Also, I don't think they aren't giving out their supplier because they're afraid of competition. What company would do that? They're not going to give you their supplier so that you can cut them out of the deal.

An update on my progress: It appears impossible to find the correct fabric with pinstripes. However, I did find wool flannel at B. Black & Sons. The other (much cheaper option) is this double-layer fabric from Robert Kaufman: https://www.etsy.com/listing/259644371/double-gauze-jersey-fabric-from-robert?show_panel=true

The problem is I'll need to apply my own pinstripes. I'm still working on that.

As an aside, I found this blog entry of a woman who made her own replica uniform which I found informative: http://wickedstepmother.weebly.com/wickeds-compendium/category/baseball

It looks like a reproduction 1917 jersey; I've got one similar to it in my collection...it was made in the 1990s, if I'm not mistaken.
