Ebayer using my pic

Freeloading ebay seller

I have come across a seller on ebay using other peoples pictures to sell Pepakura costume templates which I suspect he has also taken from other peoples hard work. Not sure if anything can be done about this, but as far as I see it the guy is nothing short of a crook. This is the ebayer in question if anyone on here has any ideas of how to deal with ebay over this, gizbut666.
I've already been in contact with gizbut666 and needless to say he was less than pleasant in his response.
Best of luck if anyone wants to take this on.
Best regards, rebelpilot

Re: Freeloading ebay seller

My guess would be that the person who actually took the photos could claim them as his origonal works, and that the right to use them is his and his alone. Not sure if that would be enough to have them taken down or not.
I would be pissed as the buyer. I offen wonder if the eBay photos are of the actual item, and unless the seller gives a caption such as "stock image" you'll never know that it's not.

Re: Freeloading ebay seller

I know it's not his material as I have found that it is rpf member TMPs, but he no longer appears to use the forum

I hate to say it, but I've seen my photos used multiple times on Ebay from WIP threads, even one of my submission photos from when I joined the 501st. I've tried reporting this before, but Ebay's reporting format is so whacky and too specific to even report it. Even then, I've yet to get a response from them, let alone the seller using the images.

My biggest reasoning behind why I get ticked off from others using my photos, is not just the fact they're trying to pass off my work for their own to make a buck, but the good possibility that those stealing images for their sales are not legitimate, which would be a scam. The buyer who just got stiffed $XXX+ is pissed off, and then can find YOU and blame YOU for the scam through the images and some time spent on google.

And the Vos's comment has been pulled. I really think we should all start watermarking our pictures. If someone tries using it then, it becomes a copyright issue and then E-bay and others would HAVE to do something.

Is this fool a member here?...

gizbut666 | eBay

...just another talentless mug using photos of other people's work to push second-hand pep tutorials. I've had a heated, head-to-head with him over one of my projects. Managed to screw with his feedback, but it cost me £6.

Re: Is this fool a member here?...

Oh man... This is shameless. The picture for warmachine is "print screen" from one of the Stealths video...

This is the first time this has happened to me. I feel flattered and annoyed all at the same time. Ultimately I am upset for Fierfek because he's the one that made the files.

The problem is that people do a Google image search for "Boba Fett" and just pick out the photo to use. They don't have to be a member here to find the photos online.

Re: Is this fool a member here?...

Sometimes, it seems like there are still two species bidding for domination on this planet... Us, and the SCUM-BAGS. There are some extremely talented artists on this forum... I hate to see them plagiarized by such scum!:angry

thats probably one of the reasons why i watermark my pictures....southbeach leathers used my photos at one point and i sent them a nice email...they removed them....

unfortunately, they replace my pictures by stealing pictures from another finhead

wonder if Art could provide some basic RPF water mark for registered members to be able to use, with the adds now all over the RPF is a form of business with an income, shouldn't be to hard to get some kind of copyright protection; i could be way off here know little about the subject.

Well, it's not like he is selling a finished prop that you built as his own work. He should have said, "here is how someone else did it". That's if he didn't do one himself. But if they were selling a completed helmet and said "this is it" and used your picture then I'd be really upset.

I had the same happen to me with a Cricket Phaser. They used a picture of my completed Cricket. After the initial shock I was flattered they chose to use my Phaser and wound up giving them permission to use my images. It was for the electronics I used in the kit.

Don't know if it's doable but at this point I think it would be funny if someone started a eBay listing for all the popular peps for .01 cent with a $1000 reserve and the items description sent them to this site so they can find the original files and all this thievery would be pointless at least on the files that is.

Re: Is this fool a member here?...

Can you guys just please report the item.

It doesn't really matter what you pick as long as it's close, this has happened before and ebay removed the listing to the what I believe was a mass report flood and pretty much got the idea.
