Dye Sub prints sewing W.I.P *UPDATED 5•12•15!* Works Internationally

Re: Dye Sub prints sewing in progress... Pics*Updated 1-30-2013* Works Internationall

Trophy wife did an amazing job on my costume. Period.

I couldn't be more happy with her work and service. She got back to me every time I had messaged her, she sent me work in progress photos and kept me up to date with everything, apart from that she's also a lovely person.

Would recommend to anybody.

So I haven't posted a picture of this yet. I know a lot of yall choose the "u" zip bc of the movie accurate part of it. But I did a zip down the back of miles morales suit and a u zip on scarlet spider suits of my husband. the u zip is sooo restricting with movement compared to the zip down the back. plus it is easier to get in and out of.

so here is the proof that tasm can be zipped up the back and still be invisible. :)

*caveat* Easier to get in and out of if you have a helper. :lol I can get in an out of a u-zip suit by myself, but damn if I can't reach the spot between my shoulder blades without someone else coming to rescue me.:facepalm

I opted for the u zip just because I didn't want to cut the back spider in half, but yes, the straight zip is elegant as well. That zipper really is invisible! Really well done, as always.

Can't wait to get my next suit sewn. :)

Trophywife, 7-10 working days is still amazingly fast for a sewn suit. 2-5 was mind blowingly quick.
Keep up the good work. Oh and I'm sure everyone will understand. Family comes first.

My back spider was printed in two halves, so TrophyWife, in your opinion, which zipper do you think looks and functions better? I plan to use my suit in a short film, and you mentioned better movement, so I'm quite intrigued. Plus it will probably be easier to sew.

Also, does it work with suits with attached masks? Does the zipper go up the mask?

I think the straight down back is better if you are going to do a short film.
Its not necessarily easier just because you have more stuff to line up like spider and webs and on u zip you just have to line up arrow one side with belt.

My biggest problem with the u zip is when the suit is puff painted. Bc of the invisibile zipper teeth curl under when zipped the puff paint is super close. So when you try to pull the slider closed or open the paint wants to grab and stick to the slider making it seem like zipper keeps getting stuck, and makes it easier for zipper to break.

The u zip on a UNpainted suit isnt that bad, if thats what you prefer, it doesnt get stuck as easy.

my husband and i just prefer straight down back now, he had to be very careful with the u zip suit compared to his suit with it down back, but crimzon is also a bigger build and that could be another reason why we prefer it.

Im not trying to convince anyone to do anything or pick one vs the other, just giving out my experience to just let it be another thought of consideration. :)

Do you think it will look ok with an attached mask? My seamstress said there could be a tiny bump where the zipper is, but it shouldn't be too noticeable. I think I might go that route.

I don't really think it there would be a bump at all if done right, Ive done a one piece with a zip down the back and there isnt a bump at end of zip, or where the pull hangs down.

Here are some more pics, of zippers that the end is in the middle of seams in the back and that end at top of mask. also that pull down to the middle of seam. Also, look up a few post and see the back zip again.

Thank you! I think this will be very helpful. So you have two zippers? I can't see any zipper lines or anything at the top of the head, so if that's where it is, that is very well hidden.

Thank you Tropyhwife for showing this! The only reason not to do a center back zipper is if you are going to do web overlays or a silicone spider patch that crosses the seam line. It also make our jobs a lot easier to set the side seam and back waistline seam and actually get it to match!LOL Here is a though, Spinal columns don't stretch that much, underarm seam and waistline seams do!

Re: Dye Sub prints sewing in progress... Pics*Updated 3-5-2013* Works Internationally

TrophyWife, you seem to be the best seamstress here on this forum and I was wondering if you could put out a full sewing guide on where you start and a list of how much thread and how many zippers you need. All of that stuff. I ask for this as someone who wants to be able to sew their suit themselves, and someone who's willing to pay for your services as soon as I know what I need and how much it'll cost. (I'm only 5'2" so the suit should take a lot less time than the bigger guys on the site)

Thanks!

Here are some updated pics. The mclean suit is for Westies14. I made a Captain America shirt out of a dye sub for Javon Beck. El Fett's battle puffied suit for Max Jenius.

Sorry they are going to post in crazy random order. :/

That looks awesome!
The neck of the mask going over the neck of the mid section seems like a great idea. I wish I got it put into my pattern!
