Dungeons and Dragons Weapons

I started a new project today that I've been wanting to do for a long time....making my own DnD weapons! I'm a huge fan of the Baldur's Gate PC games and I've always wanted to hold some of those weapons I picked up/ earned in the game.

I've also been a fan of the old DnD logo with the sword running through the middle. I want to see that logo on my wall displaying a full size one-handed sword!

Today I created the drawings, templates, and cut some steel. I'll be grinding these soon.

DND Logo Sword: 36" in length (one-handed), I also kept it accurate from the drawing with the non-symmetrical tip and fuller. Bronze guard and pommel.

Dagger +1: 10" , bronze guard and pommel

Dagger +2: 12", bronze guard and pommel

It's gonna be crazy seeing that DnD logo sword come to life.

Very creative project, dude!

I got some time to work on this project and finished up the grinding. I ended up increasing the scale of the dagger +1 because the handle wasn't long enough, now it's much better.

The next step is to get these blades heat treated. I'm going to make the sword have a relic'd finish, but try and make the daggers prettier!

I'll start on the guards and pommels next.

nice project! what kind of grinder did you use to shape the blades? That's a whole heap of grinding to get the finish that you got wow well done! :)

Thanks! I use a 2x72 belt sander with a 1.5 hp motor...heavy duty. I cut the blanks with a metal cutting band saw, then I grind the edges with 36 grit for the major material removal. Then move to 120 grit and 240 grit. The pictures are always hard to take because they reflect so much. Plus I'm just using my a iphone camera right now.

wow that's awesome savagesword. I would have thought you'd have used an angle grinder or something. Man that's ALOT of grinding!!!!!

Ok good luck with the hilts :)

Finally got some more updates! I added a 'short sword + 1' to the mix...mainly because my daughters were feeling left out and wanted something neat that Dad was working on. So the short sword +1 made it to the top of the list! I'm making the first 3 out of aluminum and casting the guard and pommel in resin with a powder color in it to look golden/bronze (cold cast). Here's a quick progress pic:

Here's some more progress. The sculpture is made of Plasticene clay over an armature. I plan on making a 2 piece mold from it and I'm a bit scared that I might damage the original a little... I usually sculpt in Super Sculpey and bake it. I plan on spraying it with shellac before the mold making process...it should be good.

That's pretty sweet! Do you have the weapon proficiencies to wield them without taking a negative to attack?

I've swung my swords at pumpkins and weeds, that's about it. I've never trained with anyone. I'm much more of a geeky fanboy from the 80's than a practicing martial arts dude. But how hard could it be to take on a stupid goblin or skeleton? :lol
