As they say, all art is stolen. Name any film you like and I can probably tell you at least five movies it has "copied" from.
The reason this film is getting praise is because at the center- beneath all of the references and style- there is a well constructed story. The film utilizes a basic three act structure and strips away most of the poor, expository mess that most hollywood films suffer from.
From a writing perspective, this is finely crafted. Trust me, I am trained in it. For example, I enjoyed Inception, but I know that it is bad writing. Almost all of the dialogue is expository. Directly explaining the story to you, instead of simply showing you. Some of my friends joke that it should have been called "Exposition" not "Inception".
The difference is that Drive has a solid structure, no saturated fat, and tells a story visually.

My opinion is my opinion, simple as that. I dont need to read any hyperbole, the movie was lame. Hows that? I also do have a little insight on plot, film making and music but again, my opinion is just that :darnkids
You made several assertions, but whatever. I'm not the guy hanging out in a discussion thread about a movie that I hated.
One post is fine, but coming back again and again to talk about GTA is ridiculous.

No idea why your on the attack about Drive. I know people who worked on it that say worse and pointed out more issues than I have while it was in production. If you liked it thats great. I also hated and could sit through any Lord of the Rings, Star Trek or Harry Potter movies as well. Many seemed to have liked those and Twilight as well. Doesnt mean I have to agree.

Just saying, if you're on here posting negative assertions about it on every page, you must take responsibility for your provocation.
It doesn't matter what crew members say about it, even the crowd that goes to Cannes is a bunch of industry people. It doesn't matter because most grips, electric, props, etc. people are not trained in writing or directing.
Anyone can have an "opinion" ("I didn't like it" "I hated it" "I loved it") but if you want to have a discussion about it you can't hide behind the word "opinion".
Coming in here and posting how much you hate something and why as often as you have comes with a price. You are entering into a discussion and you can be subject to questioning. I am pushing this because you have made several unsubstantiated assertions and I'd like to know if you have anything to back it up.
You need to make the distinction between "I don't like it" and "it's bad". Sometimes, "i don't like it" doesn't mean it's bad.

Well, its a bad movie, thats my back up. I also dont post on every page as my settings has this being page #2. It was unoriginal, not low budget, plot points that went nowhere, scenes stolen right out of popular video games, music that didnt mesh... Its easier to go read what ive already posted instead of asking me to retype it so you can come back and have something more to complain about someone elses opinion.
Smart analysis. Do you only play videogames, because those are the only references I've heard from you. Do you have any idea how derivative video games are? Or do you think they exist in a vacuum. GTA especially pulls from movies. How about mentioning some of the actual film inspiration Drive draws from?

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has set the Drive DVD and Blu-ray release date for January 31, 2012. The movie, which was released back in September, starred Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, and Christina Hendricks, and was directed by Nicolas Winding Refn.
Drive is currently one of the best movie of the year with 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, and despite its R rating it managed to earn $34 million at the US box office, and $63 million in total worldwide. Not bad for a movie that cost $15 million.
Director Nicolas Winding Refn said he hopes to put together a ‘Queen Edition’ DVD/Blu-ray which “describes the process of the filmmaking, and answers some of the more mysterious elements of the success of that it has achieved”, but until that happens the standard edition DVD and Blu-ray will contain the following special features:
- “Drive Without a Driver”
- “I Drive”
- “Under the Hood”
- “Driver and Irene”
- “Cut to the Chase”
