Drive (2011)

Drive just popped up on Netflix instant streaming. Finally saw it.

AWESOME MOVIE!

I love the way it was filmed. I like how so much is said with very little dialogue.

Christina Hendricks and a million in cash? I think I could have made that work out a lot better than he did, lol.

I just watched this tonight finally. Interesting film. Not great, but better and a bit different than most. Left me feeling... well... something... not sure what, and again, that is better than most! I really didn't care for the gore. Violence is fine. Gore just seem gratuitous and reminds me of exploitation films which equates to cheap thrills. I don't think this film needs cheap thrills and could have stood on its own without the 3 or for overtly gorey scenes.

Final assessment; wasn't blown away but would definitely watch it again.

Finally saw it on Netflix.

I thought it was a very well done film, not movie. It was not entertaining as much as it was emotion provoking. But like Art said, it left me feeling...well...something.

My thought on the gore aspect is that they put that in to make you wonder what kind of person Ryan's character is. Where did he learn to fight and kill people like that. His background is left open for interpretation, which is something I like. I don't want everything spoon fed to me.

I loved that it's a tragedy, rather than the traditional Hollywood ending.

Coming down the movie pipeline...

The book finds Diver living in Phoenix as Paul West, seven years after the events of Drive. He’s engaged, but his potential domestic happiness is destroyed when his fiance is killed in an attack. Sallis says, He is trying to suppress the violence – but the sequel shows the process of him accepting that this is who he is. He tries to become a normal person and re-invents himself. After his fiancée is killed, the violence is unleashed again.

Interesting...as I finally got around to watching it
I enjoyed it but love the soundtrack and the Drivers clothes more. I'm a huge fan of Christina Hendricks and was sorta disappointed by her short screen time.

I have mixed feelings, I love how Drive ended and I could live with his fate totally up in the air and leaning more towards his death out on the road somewhere. But also yeah, this sounds good!

never have i seen a film where the director was so adept at capturing emotional salience on film.

I loved that scene in the kitchen, when the two are staring at each other. It captured that magic moment, that only happens once in a relationship, when a couple sharing the same space, come to the mutual realization that they have intense feelings for one another. I love how the quiet intensity of moment was captured. I love how the camera work and the pacing of the actors allowed the viewer to share and relish in that moment.

I thought that scene in the hallway where the lights dim was brilliant as well. Capturing completely the intensity of a quiet adrenalin filled moment of fight or flight when the decision is made. I thought scenes like the two above captured the perception of reality perfectly.

Drive

How the hell did this movie get past me? I just watched this and thought it was awesome!! :popcorn

Now all i want is that scorpion jacket :love

My wife and I saw this last night. She didn't hate it but she didn't love it either; me, I thought it was nigh-on amazing. I can't remember the last time (before Drive) that a movie made me feel palpably tense from beginning to end. The slow, deliberate pacing actually had my heart beating pretty hard at times.

While a couple of the gory shots were too much for me (hey, they had to CUT some gore to get the movie DOWN to an R rating!) the vast majority were just enough - brief and intense - to feel like believable momentary rage/desperation rather than gratuitous gore-porn.

In all, I'd definitely recommend it to people who like their movies a little off the Hollywood standard.

I've been telling people about this movie for months. I love it. It's up there as one of my all time favorites. Now I'm all hyped up for the sequel!! When is that happening??
